The major fight this weekend takes place at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, on June 19, featuring Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Paulie Ayala.

Although this figures to be a very exciting fight, this battle has a number of very negative repercussions for the loser, including their possible retirement from the sport. This is a bout that should have happened a year or two ago.

Barrera certainly didn’t look sharp in his fight against Manny Pacquiao, in fact at times he didn’t even seem interested. This was not the same Marco Antonio Barrera who put, in effect, an end to Prince Hamed’s dreams, if not his career.

For Ayala, he hasn’t fought a lot of late, and that time off has to hurt him.

Both fighters are good guys, who like to give back to their communities and their sport.

On paper at least, this fight figure to produce an exciting event on this evening. Most times the smaller fighters do.

It’s a hard fight to pick, but I’ll go with Barrera by a wide decision, based mainly on the fact that Ayala has been idle for to long a time.
