Oscar De La Hoya tried to put up a brave front in the postfight news conference Saturday. But the bottom line is, he was fortunate to come away
with a victory over Felix Sturm in the main event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
He knew it, too. His demeanor told us so. He did not speak with confidence when addressing the media, and it made one wonder if his Sept. 18 showdown
with Bernard Hopkins will come off.
Especially when he said his oft-injured left hand began hurting during the fight. De La Hoya also said his back was bothering him, and that he had
been seeing a chiropractor.
