KILKENNY, Ireland -- World No. 1 Vijay Singh withdrew from the World Golf Championships-American Express Championship Monday due to personal reasons.
After winning for the eighth time this season at the 84 Lumber Classic last weekend, Singh returned to his Ponte Vedra Beach home. Once there, he found the house without power and water in the wake of Florida's fourth hurricane of the year, Hurricane Jeanne.
As a result of the condition of his house, Singh decided to remain home.
Singh's win at the 84 Lumber extended his lead in the official World Golf Rankings to two points over former No. 1 Tiger Woods and boosted Singh's 2004 earnings to $9,455,566, a PGA Tour record.
