Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the Paris Indoor Open because of illness.

The number three seed was given a bye in the first round and was due to face Tatiana Golovin in her second round match on Thursday.

However, the 17-year-old, who beat Lindsay Davenport to land the Pan Pacific Open title on Sunday, has a respiratory problem and will not compete in France.
