would have been a great game to see, must have been exciting and emotionally draining for the players and fans alike, 15 shootout rounds to determine a winner is unreal

Good lord!!! I know from nothing about hockey, but I know that's preposterous.

Toejam, do you remember that July 4th, nationally telecast doubleheader between the Mets and the Braves, in Atlanta, at night, in 1985? The nightcap had a huge rain delay or something, and then went 18 innings or something. Rick Camp hit the only HR of his career, with 2 outs in the bottom of the 17th, I believe, to tie the game and keep it going. It was unthinkable.

That is what reading this account of this hockey game reminded me of. Except hockey is a lot more grueling, even for a goalie. So, a question for someone who knows: How exhausted did these guys, and especially these goalies, have to get when they were all done?

That's a serious question, since I know so little about the game. I'd love some enlightenment. Did the goalies need about 20 hours of sleep afterward?

the shootout is a one on one situation so i don't think that it would be as physically draining as it is mentally, when they get to the playoffs is where they just play till someone scores, that would be both physically and mentally exhausting, here is a list of the 10 longest playoff games, the longest one is just a few minutes short of 2 full games in overtime

116:30 Detroit Red Wings 1-0 Montreal Maroons (March 24, 1936, Mud Bruneteau)
104:46 Toronto Maple Leafs 1-0 Boston Bruins (April 3, 1933, Ken Doraty)
92:01 Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 Pittsburgh Penguins (May 4, 2000, Keith Primeau)
80:48 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim 4-3 Dallas Stars (April 24, 2003, Petr Sykora)
79:15 Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 Washington Capitals (April 24, 1996, Petr Nedved)
70:18 Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 Detroit Red Wings (March 23, 1943, Jack McLean)
68:52 Montreal Canadiens 2-1 New York Rangers (March 28, 1930, Gus Rivers)
68:47 New York Islanders 3-2 Washington Capitals (April 18, 1987, Pat LaFontaine)
65:43 Buffalo Sabres 1-0 New Jersey Devils (April 27, 1994, Dave Hannan)
61:09 Montreal Canadiens 3-2 Detroit Red Wings (March 27, 1951, Maurice Richard)

you might want to add 60 min. to each game to have the time of the full game time

I remember watching the flyers pens game, I was so glad that the flyers won the game
