The trade deadline is comming up. Tuesday is the last day. There have already been some monster moves of some people that I did not expect to change teams. There have been several teams dumping salary and going to youth, including my very own Minnesota Wild.

Calgary Flames - Acquired left wing Ville Nieminen from the Chicago Blackhawks for right wing Jason Morgan and a conditional draft pick.

Feb 25:
Colorado Avalanche - Acquired center Darby Hendrickson and an eighth-round pick in the 2004 draft from the Minnesota Wild for a fourth-round pick in the 2005 draft.

Tampa Bay Lightning - Acquired defenseman Timo Helbling from the Nashville Predators for an eighth-round pick in the 2004 draft.

Feb 27:
Detroit Red Wings - Acquired center Robert Lang from the Washington Capitals for left wing Tomas Fleischmann, a 2004 first-round draft pick and a 2006 fourth-round draft pick.

Montreal Canadiens - Acquired right wing Alexei Kovalev from the New York Rangers for right wing Jozef Balej and a 2004 fourth-round draft pick.

Florida Panthers - Acquired right wing Ty Jones from the Chicago Blackhawks for future considerations.

March 3:

Edmonton Oilers - Acquired center Petr Nedved and goaltender Jussi Markkanen from the New York Rangers for goaltender Steve Valiquette, center Dwight Helminen and a 2004 second-round draft pick.

San Jose Sharks - Acquired defenseman Jason Marshall from the Minnesota Wild for a 2004 fifth-round draft pick and assigned him to Cleveland of the American Hockey League.

Toronto Maple Leafs - Acquired defenseman Brian Leetch from the New York Rangers for defenseman Max Kondratiev, center Jarkko Immonen, a 2004 first-round draft pick and a 2005 second-round pick.

March 4:
Montreal Canadiens - Acquired center Jim Dowd from the Minnesota Wild for a 2004 fourth-round draft pick.

St. Louis Blues - Acquired center Mike Sillinger from the Phoenix Coyotes for goaltender Brent Johnson; recalled left wing Peter Sejna from Worcester of the American Hockey League; activated defenseman Alexander Khavanov from injured reserve.

March 5:
Phoenix Coyotes - Acquired right wing Mike Rupp and a 2004 second-round draft pick from the New Jersey Devils for center Jan Hrdina; recalled goaltender Zac Bierk from Springfield of the American Hockey League.

Nashville Predators - Acquired defenseman Brad Bombardir and center Sergei Zholtok from the Minnesota Wild for a third and fourth-round draft pick in 2004.

March 6:
Calgary Flames - Acquired left wing Chris Simon from the New York Rangers for goaltender Jamie McLennan, center Blair Betts and minor league right wing Greg Moore.

This list does not include players acquired that were on waivers. The biggest moves were by the Rangers and the Capitals. Both are trying to dump as much salary as possible before the end of the season. The CBA talks could be interesting.

Who do you think made out the best

There was a bunch of talk about Gonchar going to one of the big name west teams. Then here come the Bruins. Huge.

The Canadians getting Kovalev is big also. Someone needs to provide a little firepower in the east besides Ottawa.

With Gonchar going to the Bruins, and the Avs having problems on defense as of late, and Robert Lang going to the Red Wings. I think Detroit is the team to beat in the West now. Especially with the return of Hatcher just around the corner.

The Avs still have a few more days to make a huge deal. They need defense, badly. Since they do not have Roy in net anymore.
