A month away, May 9th, is the NHL trading deadline. Time to wheel and deal to get the players you need to make the final push towards the playoffs.

Goalies are always huge news, here is whom I see on the block:
Olaf Kolzig - Washington Capitals
Tommy Salo - Edmonton Oilers
Roman Turek - Calgary Flames
Manny Fernandez - Minnesota Wild
Jean-Sebastien Giguere - Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Nikolai Khabibulin - Tampa Bay Lightning
Dominik Hasek - Detroit Red Wings
Martin Biron - Buffalo Sabres
Dan Cloutier - Vancouver Canucks

Not sure where any of them would go. I know the Rangers could use another goalie. The Flyers might be interested, at least while Esche is out.

The rest:
Alexei Zhamnov - Chicago Blackhawks
Peter Bondra - Washington Capitals
Tyson Nash - Pheonix Coyotes
Dmitry Yushkevich - Yaroslavl, Russia
Andrew Cassels - Columbus Blue Jackets
Jeff O'Neill - Carolina Hurricanes
Sergei Gonchar - Washington Capitals
Roman Hamrlik - New York Islanders
Alexander Svitov - Tampa Bay Lightning
Michael Peca - New York Islanders
Brian Rolston - Boston Bruins
Rob Zamuner - Boston Bruins

I am sure that there are more. Any news from the hometowns of some of these teams?

Nothing as of yet. But the Rangers are definately in the hunt for a new goalie. And it looks like the Blackhawks are trying to move Alexei Zhamnov, but I have not heard of any takers yet.

Senators might be looking at the Coyotes Tyson Nash, that is if they cannot get Bondra from the Caps.

I would like to see the rangers getting help with defense and not a goalie. But i dunno if their coach staff is smart enough for that.

Any other trades out there other than the Bondra?

Washington basically has their entire team on the block. They already moved Bondra and there is a good chance they will also part with Olaf Kolzig, Sergei Gonchar, and Robert Lang.

The deadline is March 9, there are always loads of trades on trade deadline day.

Thats not it at all. They have a team with alot of veterans and they are basically eliminated from the playoffs already. So instead of carrying these huge salaries for a losing team, they are trying to get younger and build a more solid foundation with youth.

Right now teams in the playoff hunt are willing to part with some of their most prized youngsters just to get that veteran guy to help them through the playoff run.

I understand but like they are going to be losing more in the long run without a quaility team in the lineup

Losing comes with rebuilding. When these young guys get a few years under their belt, the Capitals should be a good team.

Yes, Miroslav Satan will most likely be traded by Tuesday's 3pm deadline, although he has been playing extremely well lately. Wouldn't mind seeing him in the orange and black.

There is also a push by the teams to dump some salary before the CBA expires. That way they wont have to carry huge contracts around, just in case there are things like salary caps and such.
