The Flyers acquired center Alexei Zhamnov from the Chicago Blackhawks today for defenseman Jim Vandermeer, a minor leaguer, and a draft pick.

He'll help out alot at the center position, especially with Roenick and Primeau out with injuries and the Comrie trade.

The Flyers lost their 3rd straight game tonight to the Bruins 4-3. Sean Burke in the last 3 games has allowed 5, 5, and 4 goals. That's horrendous, what did we give up a 23 year old star (Comrie) for an aging 37 year old piece of swiss cheese. (Burke)

I dont get it, I dont Burke is the answer.

It does not make a lot of sense to me either.
The only thing I can think of,is that they are hoping not to need great goaltending. I know that sounds weird but, the way the Flyers have played, good offense, great defense, tough hardhitting hockey. They might be thinking they can hang on until it gets closer to the trade deadline, then get someone else.
Who knows, the Ducks are having terrible season,Gigure(sp) may become a possiblity. Or another good goaltender may become avalible by then.

Although...It did not break my heart to see the Sharks chew em up, and the Bruins spit em out.
In my mind, that would be the perfect Stanley Cup.

It would be a shame to see JR leave now. But the concussions are not something to take lightly. I wish him the best and I would like to see him and his Flyers make a run at the cup this year.

Exciting win for the Flyers yesterday!

They went up 3-0 early in the first period on a 5 minute major penalty, scoring 3 power play goals. Atlanta came back to tie and then it was 4-4 with a minute left in the third period and Simon Gagne was awarded a penalty shot and beat goalie Pasi Nurminen for a 5-4 win!

The injury-riddled Philadelphia Flyers lost another key player Thursday when defenseman Vladimir Malakhov suffered a fractured jaw during a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Acquired from the New York Rangers on March 8, Malakhov was injured when he deflected a point shot that rose off his stick and struck him in the face late in the third period. The 6-foot-5 Russian was helped to the locker room, leaving behind a puddle of blood.

A metal plate was to be inserted Friday, and a return date has yet to be determined.

Malakhov joins fellow defenseman Eric Desjardins, centers Keith Primeau and Jeremy Roenick and right wing Radovan Somik on the sidelines. The Flyers entered Thursday's contest with 217 man-games lost to injury.

They did interview Roenick at the game today and he said he is targeting to come back next Saturday vs the Rangers.

The Flyers shut out the Rangers today 3-0.

It's nice that the Flyers ousted the Devils in 5 games and have a chance to get some rest and prepare for the second round.

Tonight is game 6 of the Toronto-Ottawa series, with Toronto leading 3 games to 2.

The Flyers fate for their second round opponent will be decided Monday night in game 7 between Boston and Montreal.

If Boston wins, then they will face the Flyers and the Bruins will have the home-ice advantage.

If Montreal wins, then the Flyers will play the winner of the Ottawa-Toronto series.

Personally, I'd rather face the Bruins. They dont score too many goals and have a rookie goaltender. Their rookie goalie Raycroft has been good, but he's no Brodeur and the Flyers made Martin Brodeur look like swiss cheese in the first round. Actually I dont care who we play, I'm ready for the second round.

GO FLYERS !!!

I was sad to hear that Devils coach Pat Burns has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He's a good coach and wish him well with his battle.

Flyers vs Leafs in Philly tonight, looks like Nieuwendyk is out with a bad back and Sundin is questionable, that really hurts the Leafs. Johnsson will probably miss his second game for the Flyers with a broken hand.

The Flyers need to win tonight and take a 2-0 lead up to Toronto for game 3 on Wednesday. We need to again fluster Belfour by crowding his crease and setting good screens. The Flyers really got to him in game 1, even to the point where they called "The Eagle" for a minor slashing penalty at the end of the 3rd period which hurt the Leafs comeback attempt.

GO FLYERS !!!

Huge win for the Flyboys tonight to take a 2-0 series lead with them up to Toronto.

Who would have thought that Brashear and Domi would both score? The best goal was the game winner by Alexei Zhamnov though, a sweet feathered shot between Eddie's five-hole in the third period to put the Flyers up 2-1.

Robert Esche has looked absolutely awesome so far in the playoffs, he has a ton of confidence and the defense is playing well in front of him.

GO FLYERS !!!!!!

The Flyers look really good. I saw most of the game yesterday. With Boston losing,I am now rooting for the Flyers in the east.
