DENVER -- The Colorado Avalanche has signed unrestricted free agents Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne to one-year contracts, the Associated Press learned Thursday.

An NHL source said Kariya, who played with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks last season, agreed to a $1.2 million contract. Selanne, who declined his option at $6.5 million with the San Jose Sharks, agreed to a $5.8 million contract with Colorado.

Kariya and Selanne are two of the NHL's top forwards, scoring 56 and 64 points, respectively, last season.

msn.espn.go.com...

They are going to be so stacked at forward now, adding Kariya and Selanne to a team that already has Forsberg, Sakic, Hejduk, Tanguay, Reinprecht, etc. etc.

The loss of Patrick Roy will hurt though.

Wow man, this shouldn't be allowed, the Avalanche were already very deep offensively and then they add these 2 , oh boy looks like the Avs forthe cup next year.

I am going to be looking forward to next year when i see this Avs team on the ice. This is going to be a great season of hockey. I am still going to be looking forward to the rivalry of the Avs and the Wings. The Wings signed Hacther a great defensive player and they are leaning towards being on the defensive side.

I also heard they were trying to talk Hasek out of retirement.

If they talk haske out of retierment that would be awesome. CuJoe and Hasek as goalies that spells trouble.

Looks like that happened, but it also looks like they are gonna try and deal Curtis Joseph.

The avs/wings rivalry is one of the best parts of hockey in my book. This year it will be even better, as long as colorado gets goalie worth a damn. we are gonna move cujo, unless this whole ordeal with hasek gets serious. He got in a fight in an inline skating game not too long ago and bashed some guy in the head and neck with his stick, and now charges are being pressed against him. His agent said he doesnt THINK it will be a problem but management needs to hear better than that, so we'll see what happens.

ps. i'm not too happy with federov leaving.
