Justin Timberlake said that Coldplay are "the best band on the planet".

I don't normally take my musical cues from Justin Timberlake, but yes they are quite good. Are they the best band on the planet right now, I dunno.

What band do you think is making the best music right now? I am not talking about who do you think is the best band of all time, the Beatles win that arguement everytime. I am talking about who do you think is putting out the best music right now.

I've got to go along with coldplay. I never really had a favorite band before that , I just liked most music, but coldplay are just cosistantly brilliant.

Sorry to say this...

Coldplay... Ewww. Yuck, lol.
I have never liked them, dont know why... Just can't get into their music, totally boring for me (and yes, I do like relaxing music - Pink Floyd for example)

I have no idea who is the best band on the planet.
I would probably say Iron Maiden if I had to choose.
Problem is, there are so many different sort of bands, it would be impossible to say "such and such are the best band in the world".

People may say Coldplay are, but the metal heads would probably say Iron Maiden or some other Metal band. Depends who you ask. My personal favourite bands in the world are:
Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, Kiss, Queen and Status Quo.

Tool is a good candidate right now.

I'd vouch for Tool as well. If Earthtone 9 didn't break up, maybe them.

Opeth are also up there, since they can mix so many genres at once. Plus they just rock.

Best current Stooges impersonators: Jet.

Aussies of course. Grunge was invented there.

There is one band that are standing out for me at the moment: The Mars Volta. Best band on the planet.

Rush...a three man band...Geddy Lee plays three instruments and sings...beat that. Plus...Neil Pert lost his daughter and wife...and still jams...he puts out drum lines that no one in the recording industry can duplilcate...NO ONE! Listen to Moving Pictures and tell me different.

The Cure must be mentioned. I once listened to the whole Cure discography, or darn near all of it at work. It took a few days. Mind you, they go back to the seventies. Pretty well every song I listened too, I liked.

I was not urged to switch the song, or turn it down. There are only a couple of groups that are like this that come to mind. The beatles being one of them.

I agree with Tool, and A Perfect Cirlce as well.

Have to agree. They have been rocking for over 35 years now, the same three guys. They have been incredibly prolific; they tour consistently, and always take their music to new places not resting on their hits of years ago, but staying on the edge. They are the tightest sounding band around, making all that music and its just three of them. Their lyrics are intelligent and are about positive or profound themes without fail. They are positive role models for the most part and true artists who are still standing the test of time.

Rush gets my vote!

First try to specify in which music genres\styles.
nowdays there are a lot of good musicians\bands.
coldplay is not coldcut, for example. but its different music directions.
now you trying to lump everything together

In the 90s I loves Saigon Kick, every song had such a unique musical statement. But as I got older my tastes changed quite a bit.

I used to think that Finger Eleven was the best band in the word, then it was Radiohead. Then I really HEARD Deftones and I was just a kid in a candy store with that band.

I am going through the same kind of thing right now with 36 Crazyfists. I think if I had to chose, I would have to say Deftones.

Thank God nobody has said U2.

While I like Coldplay alot, I wouldn't consider them the best band in the world myself. But, I am so heavily biased towards Pearl Jam that my ears seem to only be tuned to the tone of Vedder.

Justin Timberlake is a man, not a band!
Coldplay suck....sooo boring and monotonous.

Of all time it would have to be Beatles or The Rolling Stones....

Now, dunno.... not too many great bands around right now.
