Baseball: Bonds tested for steroids!

Barry Bonds was randomly tested for steroids Friday, according to the Contra Costa Times and Major League Baseball's official website.

Bonds was reportedly tested before the Dodgers-Giants game in San Francisco.

"I'm glad this is finally happening," Bonds told MLB.com. "They'll get the results and it will clear my name. It'll show that there's nothing behind what I've been doing (on the field) all year."

However, in an interview with The Times, Bonds spoke with what could be construed as a different attitude.

"My name ain't dirty," Bonds said.

Bonds, a six-time National League MVP, has 703 career home runs, 11 behind Babe Ruth and 52 behind Hank Aaron's all-time mark. His most recent home run came Sunday when he hit his 45th of the season in a 7-4 loss to Los Angeles.

I hope he is cleared.

From what I have seen, he has one of the best eyes at the plate. He waits for his pitch and then sends it a million miles.

The one thing I wish he would do is look a little more lively out in left field. He looks bored. He stands around in the outfield most of the game, when he gets to bat, they walk him. But he does get paid a lot of money, so he should pretend he is enjoying it.

On the PTI show on ESPN, they made an interesting point. Most of these guys that are suspected, or have been suspected of taking steroids, are having mediocre HR seasons. For example, Sosa's totals are down, Berkman's homers are down, Bagwell... They went on to say that they had their slump-seasons right after they started testing for steroids. Barry, however, even with the testing, has done just as good, if not better, as he has any other season.

For some reason i always belived that Bonds could or maybe is on some performance inhancing drug, he used to be skinny, and now he is one of the biggest guys in the league.

so what a player can be going to the gym and get bigger cant they? all it is is a big of hard work in the gym and on the field

Well, he either is or isn't. Speculation is basically pointless because there is no possible way that everybody will come up with all the answers. Barry seemed pretty confident about it eh.

Yes... but if you look at his baseball cards from now back to when he was a Rookie... he's gradually gotten biger over the years, which leads me to believe he didn't take steroids. Sosa is who got huge over night...

i dunno about gradually getting bigger, he just got bigger straight up in the last couple of years before hitting those monster hr's

i agree with ben here, he just came into the picture out of nowhere

i dunno about him taking steriods he might have done some ahrd work and thigns like that, or he could have had helped at some point of time, i know that we will never find this out.

Well it seems kinda funny that after the scandal came out about the drugs stuff and his possible involvement he suddenly stepped up to the plate and had the drugs test without no fear, which he never did before and is now all cocky about it that he will be found clean. He has had awhile to get it out of his system and now be found clean so to speak....

But the test was a random selection, and, unless MLB is in on it, he had no control over when he got tested. And, i need him to be cleared, so his rookie card goes up in value

Yes and he had a good idea he was going to be selected along time ago when the drugs scandal came out. So what better time to stop taking them so he is clean when they finally get around to doing him.....

Which happens to be quite a few months after the drugs scandal and as i keep saying plenty of time to get clean....

Am i correct in saying they only started this random testing AFTER the scandal? If so i would have liked to see the results of a test on Bonds say 6-7 moths ago, then see how cocky he would be as to being clean...

He's still been producing, though. Kinda shoots a hole in the steriods theory.

he still may producing but the time to test him was during the scandel not 7 months after like trd said.

i was watching sportscenter this morning and gary was talking about his role in balco and how barry introduced him to peopel that gave him steriods, and gary stated that he did not know that they were steriods that he was taking.

My question is could barry have taken thse not knowin they were steriods?
