Brian De Palma's classic 70's Flick Carrie with Sissy Spacek and John Revolta was on. After all these years this tale of a Teenaged Girl tormented
by her Fanatic Mother and Cruel High School Peers who gains revenge via Psychic Abilities is a true horror classic.....
I'm sure we've all been ragged on during our High School years and secretly cheered Carrie White on when she gets back at all those creeps via a
Wild Bunch style climax. Carrie represents the picked on kid who fanatasizes about getting back in creative ways....
Buts lets take a different look at Carrie and the whole premise that makes up the movie...
First of all we see that Carrie has the ability to control people and things about her via Psychic talent. She makes a snot nosed kid fall off his
bike after her cusses her out and slams the doors and windows in her home after her Nutzoid Religious Mama gets on her case.....
She ultimately uses these powers to wipe out her classmates after they dump that pail of pigs blood on her including that two faced Gym Teacher who
befriended her.
Kind of a one woman strike force don't you think ?
Lets assume this then .....
Carrie White was actually a gentically modified person who was actually bred to be a bio-weapon used in Special Warfare areas by a hush hush US
Government Agency (i.e. NSA) and conditioned by the hostile environment she was placed in..
Far Fetched ?
In Stephen King's other novel Firestarter, young Charlie McGee was the result of a experiment the sinister Government Agency The Shop performed on
her parents during their college years. Her ability to start fires and use it as a weapon was part of a long project to breed genetically modified
people to be used as Bio-Weapons....
King apparently wanted this to be the premise of Carrie as well but scrapped it on the many rewrites his did for that work. He also wan this to be the
cause of young Danny's talent in The Shining but nixed that as well...
Another thing about Carrie is this, How do we know that her Mama is really her Mama ? How do we know that Mrs. White isn't just some clever
Government Psychiatrist posing as her Mum ? This isn't so hare brained considering in Firestarter that the Native American Hitman takes young Charlie
into his confidence by posing as a shell shocked handyman in need of friendship. For all we know Mrs. White could be kicking back with a few Tom
Collin's when no one was looking and filing her reports with the bods in D.C.
Mrs. White treats the matter of Carrie's conception as a shameful drunken rape by her long gone husband . This could also be a clever cover story she
plants in this mentally tortured girls head. Also many young Polish, Russian, and even Jewish youngsters were kidnapped by the Nazi's and raised to
be Aryans during the Second World War so this could not be such an impossible premise considering the fact Carrie was'nt just the result of a lab
conception.
Mrs. White's methods of child rearing resemble the psychological manipulation that the Red Chinese used on our POW's during the Korean War. Only a
well trained Psychiatrist or Psy Ops Agent could use such methods for the proper results...
Also, a lot of people raised the question of the fact that the Social Welfare people were'nt called by a concerned neighbour to take Carrie away from
her Mother considering her behaviour. Why also was'nt there one or several teachers at Carrie's High School to report the abusive teachers for their
treatment of her. I know I'm going against both King's & DePalma's creative license here but ANY teacher acting that way would be sternly
reprimanded and made into a buffet by the Local Board Of Ed....
Lastly, the Amy Irving character wakes up screaming after having that horrid nightmare of being snatched by Carrie's hand. Which makes me ask. Did
Carrie survive that stabbing/cleanup attempt by her Mom/Overseer and collapse of her home ? Why not, considering that many survivors of the London
Blitz managed to live for up to 3 weeks after being covered in wreckage.
So was Carrie actually sending a Psychic message to the Amy Irving character to let her know to effect a rescue ? The ending leaves the door open to
many possibilities....
Sorry if this sounds like a misplaced rant but I've always wondered about this aspect of the film....
