Best Beer in the Land!

The US is one of the worst places on planet earth for good beer. Many Americans really don't know what they are missing.

England is the best for proper real ale beers. Woodforde's Wherry, Greene King Abbot Ale, and Fullers London Pride are really great beers.

For a stout (like Guinness) then try Kelpie Seaweed Ale from Scotland.

Kriek Max (cherry beer) is very good and from Belgium. Also Floris Ninkeberry is another good fruity beer.

For lager, Leffe Blonde, Hoegaarden Grand Cru, Kronenberg Blanc.

To go with a meal have Peroni Gran Riserva from Italy.

You can't get many of these in the US because of import restrictions on food and drink since 9/11.

Some countries in Europe sell mostly lager, but the UK is by far the best in the world for the quality of choice of beer and lager.

I'm brewing up a batch (6 gallons) of Stout tonight. I'm using a kit from the Coopers Company in Australia. It's hopped, but they don't list what type of hops is in it. I really enjoy a good stout now and then.
Ever had a "Black and Tan"? It's similar to the "Mississippi Mud" that was posted a short time ago. You take a nice dark stout and pour it in a large glass with a nice amber, the mix of the two tastes like heaven :w:
Someone here at ATS has a signature that says "Beer makes you feel like you should feel without beer.". I wish I had thought of that..... I like it.

I'm sorry. I disagree. Germany is Number One for ANY kind of beer. And here in America, we can get all kinds of German beer.

Everyone has their preferences, so it really shouldn't be an issue to argue about.
I gotta agree with Landis though about the German beers.

England does have some great beers (Woodfords Wherry - a blast from the past! A swift four before the Canaries Games ).

BUT we also have lots of chemical rubbish; pale imitations of European lagers (Stella, Heineken, etc) and neutered versions of once-great beers (Boddington's etc)

Not that different from the US - I'm sure there are some good beers but 95%+ of it is rubbish), or Australia where there's just one half-decent beer.

Overall Germany and Belgium have the best beers.

Beer in the UK is very good but we have the EU to thank for most of the good stuff and the prices.

Over the last couple of years I've learned an incredible amount about beer. I've tried hundreds, and I feel like I have a decent palate.

So far, my favorite is a Doppelbock out of Left Hand brewery called 'The Goosinator'. It's seasonal in winter, and I intend to buy a case of the stuff at around $150 this winter. Until I researched, I was of the impression that this was a smoke ale, so be prepared for a smoky flavor, but not quite like Marzen or any other smokes you may have tried.

As for wheat ales, Paulaner and Hoegaarden top the list for me.

The only Pilsner I'm familiar with is Shiner's 101. It is delicious.

I've recently tried a Lager that I liked (probably the first, billed as an Island Lager), I believe it's named Surfboard. Comes in a brown bottle with a red cap. Every other lager I can remember trying has been american or mexican swill. Schlitz is possibly the only exception, and I know very well that I'm alone in my appreciation amongst beer enthusiasts.

I have as yet not had a porter that has impressed me, but this may be my fault as I've always chilled them before drinking. This, I've been informed, is stupid and wrong.

Lambics are, well, Lambics. I love sour things, so they're right up my alley, I don't care how much of a girl that makes me.

My favorite breweries include Paulaner, Shiner, Left Hand, Rogue, and Ska. Oh, speaking of Ska, they make great stouts.

My favourites would have to be Carlsberg and Harp, yummy.

USA resident, accustomed to cheap watery beer! Drinking Busch right now! (I know, its worse than huffing chemicals and worshipping Satan and drinking children's blood, I know, I know.)

I do like a very fizzy beer. I am Bohemian (From Czech Republic) - home of some the greatest beers in the world!

I do like a good fizzy light Pilsner.

Luuuuuuuuuuv Rolling Rock! - To all you PA people - when we got RR here in Chi town - OMG - people went NUTS!!! Chi Town do love the Rolling Rock! It was a shame they got bought out. Still good though.

Leinenkugels beer is pretty good. Any Western Chi locals remember the Weinkeller? They had some good micro beers.

I can't take any 'heavy' beers - for lack of a better description - the ones that look like used transmission fluid. The Black Stuff. Yeah, pass. Speaking of the Weinkeller - my exH used to drink this stuff they brewed there called something like "Dusseldorf Doffenbach". Which by my guess is German for Battery Acid. Looked like it, tasted like it too.

So do beers such as "Guinness" to me. That stuff is just vile.

But on the other side of the coin I drank Carta Blanca all throughout Central and South America - so. That takes some nerve right there. Also drank the water. Would've drank Guinness over Guatemalan water anyway

Germany is a bit overrated when it comes to beer. Most don't taste good. I live in munich, we have one great beer: Augustiner and then there is also the "Tegernseer Hofbräu" which i think is the best beer in the world. Nothing comes even close to it and i drank a lot of beer, we once had in munich a pub that served 101 beers from around the world - most of them weren't good.

The worst thing is Löwenbräu made in Greece, it is even worse than the american pisswater

It's a sad fact that American beer is looked down upon because we came into the culture with entirely the wrong mindset. A cheap drunk is the main goal of the majority of american beer drinkers, where most of the world sees alcohol and beer as almost sacred, and something to celebrate. So our most famous lagers are cheap swill, sure. And foreign breweries have a lot more experience with creating good beer - but there are enough of us here that a number of microbreweries have come into existence and are doing very good business. Don't judge all american beer on the larger companies - there are a lot of fantastic beers coming out of smaller breweries everywhere.

That being said, in a country where our foods are as rich as we can get them and our obesity rate is astronomical, I'm shocked that we like such watery garbage so much.

Has anyone tried Sam Adams Utopia? I've never had the money, but it's something I find myself wishing to try very badly.

Also, any beer nerds on here care to tell me how I can properly appreciate an IPA? It seems there are hundreds of them on the market, and I've never really enjoyed one.
