I listened to Newstalk 770-AM WABC here in New York this morning and realized that Rush was returning today! I didn't catch his show (I was in school), but went online to see if I could find anything about him... here's some of what I found...

-New York, Nov. 17th - IVE NOT BEEN phony here, Ive not been artificial on the program, he said. I was all of that elsewhere. He did not elaborate.
Limbaugh had not appeared on the air since Oct. 10, before going into a rehabilitation program in Arizona.
I spent five intense weeks, probably the most educational and intense five weeks on myself that I have ever spent. I would have had no idea how to do this myself, Limbaugh said at the start of his syndicated radio program.

I just want your feedback on what you all think of Rush and these things that have happened to him, and if you think that he's a "changed man" like many news networks are saying. Give your opinions.

Certainly the most notorious racial remark attributed to Limbaugh is his telling a black caller on his radio talk show to "Take that bone out of your nose and call me again," a claim which dates to at least 1990, with the incident supposedly having occurred as far back as the 1970s. It was brought up again recently by several media outlets, including BET (Black Entertainment Television), and it has been mentioned by FAIR (Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting) several times over the years. Nearly all the information available on this subject is anecdotal, with no documentation and no specifics mentioned other than that the alleged quote was something Limbaugh "once said" or uttered "as a young broadcaster in the 1970s."

I know nothing else about Rush and I don't care to after this comment and the one he made about feminists.

maynardsthirdeye- I heard all about that racial thing and I agree it's not right.

My dad said that Rush deserves everything that's happening to him. Do you all agree? Please give your views!

I dont like his views hes to party oriented for me.
As far as his drug problem goes it should be up to the
individual how one treats their pain. Its no ones buisness but his own. Hes not harming anyone else.
But time and time again i see prople who cast stones humbled by that instant karma.

Wow, it's amazing how Rush can go through "rehab" and come back on top, but most other people who get caught taking drugs go straight to prison and get ass raped by murderers and the like.

Yes, he does. Someone here mentioned karma. Didn't he say an unkind word or two about addicts in the past? I'll see if I can find that.

Here are some of the more well-known quotes he has made about people with drug-addictions:

23 Sep 1993 "He says that, 'I know every expert in the world will disagree with me, but I don't buy into the disease part of drug abuse. The first time you reach for a substance you are making a choice. Every time you go back, you're making a personal choice. I feel very strongly about that.' What he's saying is, that if there's a line of coc aine here, I have to make the choice to go down and sniff it. And I don't know how -- how to do it, but if I was going to do it, I'd do it. If there were a gun here, it wouldn't fire itself. I've got to reach for it and -- and pull the trigger. And his point is, that we are rationalizing all this irresponsibility and all the choices people are making and we're blaming not them, but society for it. All these Hollywood celebrities say the reason they're weird and bizarre is because they were abused by their parents. So we're going to pay for that kind of rehab, too, and we shouldn't. It's not our responsibility."

9 Dec 1993 "If [Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders] wants to legalize drugs, send the people who want to do drugs to London and Zurich, and let's be rid of them." Rush Limbaugh, admitted drug addict, inexplicably still lives in America.

[Hes] another dead drug addict. - Rush Limbaugh on Jerry Garcia, 8/11/95

5 Oct 1995 "What this says to me is that too many whites are getting away with drug use. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we're not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too."

I think that Rush is a pompous ass and a hypocrite, but I don't wish anything bad on him. My main wish is that he will learn something from all this. I would love to hear that he had developed some sense of compassion for people who are addicted to drugs, though I doubt that will happen. As if his remarks about drug addicts weren't bad enough, here are a few more gems:

On homosexuality: "When a gay person turns his back on you, it's anything but an insult - it's an invitation. The difference between Los Angeles and yogurt is that
yogurt comes with less fruit."

On the homeless: "One of the things I want to do before I die is conduct the Homeless Olympics. The 10-meter Shopping Cart Relay, the Dumpster Dig, and the Hop, Skip and Trip."

On NAFTA: "If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people--I'm serious, let the unskilled jobs, let the kinds of jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do--let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work."

On Native Americans: "There are more American Indians alive today than there were when Columbus arrived or at any other time in history. Does this sound like a record of Genocide?"

On feminism: "Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream. Women were doing quite well in this country before feminism came along."

My personal favorite:

On corporate layoffs: "Why is it that whenever a corporation fires workers, it's never speculated that the workers might have deserved it?"

I cant stand most talk shows especially the republican ones, and Rush is the worst of them. All I ever hear out of his mouth is how evil the leftwingers are.

In the words of the Colonel.

This man is an addict.
He has to change his behavior if he wants to stay clean.
I, however, do not think he is a changed man.

I just watched that clip with Michael J Fox. Anyone that would make fun of that good man, and try to make a political issue fom such a humane cause has got to be insane. Rush is but a wart on the rear of our nation, him and his kind that are dividing this great country to the point that everything becomes left vs right, are helping to ruin this country and are pigs at the trough.

I have no respect for that man.
None at all.

I've seen the effects that drugs can have on people and it's tragic. I have a great deal of tolerance for addicts in general... but none for a foul mouthed, disrespectful line tower who abuses his position as a media figure.

Screw his status, screw his views, and screw him.
The man deserves every bit of hardship that should fall upon him.

You nailed it right on the head, LGM; Limbaugh is a cancererous growth that should be excised. Why is it that he can get away with years and years of slanderous, abusive tirades against anyone he chooses and yet suffer no legal consequences? I have long loathed everything that the man stands for but his remarks about Michael J Fox just totally flummoxed me. I truly believe that the man does not have one humane or compassionate bone in his body. But you know what they say, "what goes around comes around."

I didnt know he was gone!!!

Pardon me for sounding like a parrott all the time, but that man should give it up and just go away forever.

There's plenty others that can carry the baton. Hannity would be delighted if Rush stayed "gone"

What ever happened to G. Gordon Liddy? Now, you might find this amusing, but i DO LIKE HIM, eventhough his views are not mine. He's a nice gentleman, and doesnt sound rabid or hateful when he speaks. Its ok to back up Bush
without the hatred like Rush and Hannity.

Where is G. Gordon Liddy???
I'd like to hear him. I wonder if he's still on the air?

You know DG,

I liked him a lot as well..

I wonder just what did happen to Mr. Liddy?

Think I'll look and see what I can find. Maybe start a thread on it if I can find any material..

DG, he is apparently still kicking...

Off topic I know, but how on earth can you say this?
Have you ever met Liddy? Do you know him personally?
What insights do you have on G. that I dont have?
He may say nice things on the radio, but does that automaticly make him a 'very nice man'?
It never ceases to amaze me how many apparently intelligent Americans will make absurd comments like 'He is a great man' or 'He is a very nice man', when in all actuality you have no idea what kind of man he is, other than what you have heard of him speak on the radio or TV, which is a very narrow slice of a perpective.
Spend some time with G., talk to people that know him personally, then perhaps you may be able to ascertain if he is a 'very nice' man.
This wasnt meant as an attack DG, just an observation.

As far as Rush goes, I used to like what he said quite a bit when Clinton was in office, but now he spews garbage and hate while turning a blind eye to the rampant incompetance and criminal behavior in the Republican party.
I beleive Rush may be a closet communist, hell bent on the destruction of America, but thats just my opinion.

Yeah, right. Liddy seems like a real nice guy, until you dig a little bit:

Liddy has been known to support a conspiracy theory that the Watergate break-in was a means of covering up a call-girl ring run out of the Democratic National Committee headquarters. The theory got him involved in a defamation lawsuit filed by Ida "Maxie" Wells, a former DNC headquarters secretary who sued Liddy for saying that the her desk was targeted in a search for pictures of prositutes by Watergate burglars. The case was dismissed by the U.S. District Court in Baltimore after jurors could not reach a verdict. Wells appealed that decision.

Liddy was convicted for his role in the Watergate break-in, for conspiracy in the Daniel Ellsberg case and for contempt of court, spending about four and a half years in prison. In 1986, a federal appeals court found Liddy liable for $20,499 in back taxes on Watergate slush-fund money, rejecting his claim that his benefits did not exceed $45,000. As one of the White House "plumbers," Liddy spent about $300,000 engineering political dirty tricks and the Watergate break-in. Liddy lives in Fort Washington, Md. LINK

The man is a convicted felon and IMO a congenital liar who turned his high profile involvement in politicial dirty tricks into a high paid career in radio and TV. He may appear to be a kindly old gentleman on first blush but looks can be decieving.
