I don't really think our vast travels make us who we are, better or worse. What is most impressive are the gifts we pick up along the way and treasure always, whether it's one mile away or thousands..

Nice sentiments... I'd argue though, that travel does contribute a lot to who we are... For example, living where I have (not just visiting), it's really helped me to see other sides of issues, and be more objective... It's given me a great perspective, made me more globally aware, and has given me an appreciation for other cultures...all things that I might not have had were it not for the travel... I just hope, that when I have children, I can do likewise for them, so that they are more of a global citizen.

I have no idea how you have related my previous response to all that you've written? I was stating that travels near or far in distance can attribute to who we are by the little(non-material) treasures we pick up along the way. By treasures I mean life-styles, cultures, beliefs, perspectives, views, knowledge etc..of all peoples all over the US and other countries.

I apologize for my metaphorical confusion. And I agree with what you have written btw..

As for me, I've lived in Inverness Scotland all my life (bar six months spent on the Isle of Rum), and haven't travelled very far (much to my own lack of drive)

All over the UK
France (Paris, Lyon, numerous places on south coast)
Italy (Bibione, Venice)
Switzerland

When I was around 14 or 15, I was this >< close to going on a school exchange trip for 3 weeks, travelling in the States (coast to coast). Then my father lost his job a month before the trip.

I'm looking forward to re-covering some of my old stomping grounds to see what's happened around them and enjoy them afresh. And I would never go to Antarctica alone.

Me too MA. I want to go back to Brunei and see how it's changed. When I was last there the city of Bandar Seri Begawan was blowing up. I wonder what it looks like now...

I'll go to Antarctica with you, it's one of the two continents I haven't been to. I'd take the boat though, a nice, cruisy, aluminium hulled sailboat and cruise the islets and ice shelfs. I'd take the surfboard too, I heard they get good waves in West Ant.

Sounds a unique way of experiencing the last wilderness!

What's your other unvisited continent?

I felt a little world weary on reaching the one region I had never visited by last decade (Europe). But the bug has been biting deeper ever since.

I've never been to Africa before. My parents were looking into a vacation in the Seychelles. Don't know how "Africa" you consider that, but we never went anyway.
