Over the next 5-10 days, we'll be working on a complete top-to-bottom redesign of ATS, that will also effect BTS and PTS. You'll begin to see some new features, new pages, and a fundamental shift in our overall "look and feel" as we update and modernize what is essentially a 5-year old layout (with some refinements around the edges).

As a sneak peak of what's headed your way... he's a slice of the new ATS home page:

More information coming soon... get ready for the next generation of ATS!

It looks really nice, but I thought part of the reason (if I'm not mistaken), for the current layout was to reduce the amount of images (used as buttons), thereby increasing page load times for users like me with a slow dialup connection.

My question is, would this adversely affect page load times?

Not a technical person, but am confident where changes are concerned here at Above Top Secret, the changes are from great thought and are plus-practical to the ATS member, like me.
Thank's SkepticOverlord for the hint as well as Simon Gray & Springer and other High Influence people of what's to come.

How did you know that black was my favourite colour/shade?

It would be cool in purple too.

Hmmmm....

Umm... I'm fine with it just as long as non of the features at the top of the screen are removed, and what's that I see, new forums? Or rather a collection of several forums into one new one?

Definitely looks 21st century layout.

When I first seen the title, I cringed. I absolutely love the current lay out of the site, but the sneak peak Skeptic has offered us has quickly silenced me.

I think it looks great and I look forward to what ATS holds in the future.

Smell The Love

"It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is: None. None more black." -- Nigel Tufnel

Of course I couldn't resist invoking a little Spinal Tap for this one.

But kidding aside, I really do like it, especially the shininess, low-impact 3D appearance and iconic motif which offer some serious eye candy and -- please forgive me -- a strong, intuitive interface paradigm.

Naturally we'll want to bang on it, make sure it's easy on the eyes and enhances the discussion experience, but SO's track record in that department is very encouraging.

Just in time for the holidays, too.

Looks great, thought SO and Springer had been quite recently, guess this is part of the reason why!

There are exciting times coming for ATS. There will be those who probably won't like the changes (cue Regurgitator's "I like your old stuff better than your new stuff"), but everything needs to evolve. I'm sure the big three will be receptive to constructive feedback on any changes. Good luck on the roll-out!
