Not really. I like avatars. However, I don't pay nearly as much attention to a person's avatar as I do to what they post. I make my value judgements of aperson based on the things they post. If they seem vitriolic to me, I don't have much to do with them. Brashness, crudeness and generally hateful attitudes do not attract me at all.

My avatar has always reflected my love for video games And the Horde!

But other than that I tend to listen to what people are trying to say and go from there. So I think an avatar reflects atleast one aspect of our lives.

I posted on this thread a while ago and I've changed avatars a few times since then, but the current ones, are just because I thought it would be a good idea for one really.

If you feel it reflects what I post, then thats up to you.

Well since you asked, no I don't think they do.

I know some people's freak me out so bad, I just don't even post.

Other's make me think I'm talking to a kid and I look in the profile and there in their 30's or older.

While other's make me think I'm talking to someone whose old and their only a kid.

I think that they do tell a little about the person, but not dramatically. To tell what a person is like, I either look at what they post or their profile.

Simple logic.....

My Avatar is awesome...

I am awesome....

Ergo, avatars reflect the posters.

Thread Closed.

Well you did but I reopened it.

Nice avatar BTW. But it probably doesn't exactly reflect you.

Sure it does. That's a picture of me taken at my company's annual picnic.

I didn't like my old avatar but could not find anything else with my name on it.I am not very creative with my computer but Mechanic 32 did an excellent job of putting together everything I had in my head. It does reflect me in many ways as I lead a very sheltered life.[No I'm not in prison.]

How do you like my avatar? Anyway, do you think that the signatures reflect the posters?

As I've stated my position before, I won't be doing it again.

However, my current avatar is of a small robotic arm, meant for
precise working, it represents my liking of science and technology.

I've been wanting to use this avatar for some time but haven't found the right environment for it.

ATS appears to me to be the ultimate form of expression on the interweb.Predators and prey all swimming about in this medium, neither knowing who is who.

It's all great fun, isn't that what art is?

This is my current avatar.

Consolidated Rail (CONRAIL) SD70MAC #4140, now CSXT 785, built by Electro Motive in 1997. This avatar shows nearly thirty years of history with the paint scheme. This paint scheme is a "What If?" scheme showing what Penn Central or CONRAIL units may look like today if they were still around.

It also shows, or least should show, that I am a railfan. I have been a railfan ever since I saw my first train. I am twenty two years old, so I have seen a few railroads come and go.

I think they do somehow reflect the user. I mean I'm quite fond of sticking a Cyberman up there (like now), but I mainly do it when I'm depressed, heartbroken or stressed about something... and I guess its because Cybermen are emotionless.

Likewise when I'm feeling good I have something I find cool or hot. My previous avvy you may have noticed was a picture of Jessica Rabbit... and oddly enough I had met a very attractive girl with a good voice.

Geez... I'm revealing too much of my personality through my avatars. I hope none of you emotional blackmailers (cause if you are!)...

Ever since i been on a forum, avatars give me the ability to reconize people in an instant...

That is why you changed it after this post?

I always try to have a humorous avatar, I had some really great ones that just won't do for this site, unfortunately. I like motion GIFs too, but again, problematic here. My best one has a very naughty word in it so I'm sure it wouldn't be welcome.

Seeing as how I tend to discuss belief vs. nonbelief I chose FSM. I didn't think at the time that some people might think I was being mean and trying to mock them, but I guess on some level I AM mocking something they might believe in.

So if my ava offends thee, I really truly apologize, but I like it, FSM cracks me up and I'm gonna keep it.

Just please be aware I don't have it up just to be a slap in the face. FSM makes me giggle every time I look at him.

lol No. I changed it because I started talking about a villain in Doctor Who. So now I'm feeling like cheering the bad guy so I put up a VOTE SAXON avvy instead.

Probably won't make sense unless you watch Dr Who..

You're right, it doesn't.

But who cares, avatars are not supposed to make sense, right?
