Tamahu, some of that may very well be true. However, mainstream Islam has classified the Sufis as "heretics" and there is no love lost between sufi mystics and modern day Islam.

I'm not concerned with the profane fanatics of any religion.

Both Islam and Buddhism are in themselves Holy Religions, as the Buddha and the Prophet Muhammad are Masters of the White Lodge.

I really do recommend that people read the various articles here:

berzinarchives.com...

And I don't have headphones with me here at the library, as to watch the video first presented in this topic.

But it looks like it was made by ignoramuses anyway.

I don't see anything holy about muhammed, he waged wars, killed many people, practiced polygamy and 'married' a nine year old. Though it's probably more like rape. Sorry, nothing holy about a pedophile murderer.
Jesus was at least someone that could have been considered a pacifist. And he preached tolerance more than anything.
You could say the same with Buddha.

The difference in the big religions is that there is only one will get your head chopped off!

Nygdan: I was little confuse about a couple points in your post, that I was hoping you could clear up.

Early in your post you say you agree that Buddhist Monks live their days in hunger and poverty. Then later on, you say that Tibetan Monks take all the wealth and property from the Tibetan people for themselves.

Is it just Tibetan monks that have wealth and property? What exactly do they do with the wealth that they 'take' from the citizenry? Do you have specifics? I'm looking for more than 'the wealth is put into their monastaries.'

Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam are the 'big three' propagandistic religions. They are the three religions that have spread out of their centers to the rest of the world. They spread by saying 'your religion is false, error, image, delusion, it will lead you to eternal torment, suffering, hell. OUrs is the true way" and often by spreading to the local elites, who then force the new religion on the under-class.

Nygdan, you label Buddhism as one of the big three?
Nah,when i refer to the big three,I mean, Judaism,Christianity and Islam. Buddhism has never been so arrogant as to claim to have all of the answers. Judaism,Christianity and Islam have.

speaker, i second that sentiment

buddhism doesn't hand out any answers, it mostly just points you in a direction

the abrahamic religions are quite exclusivist

hell, buddhism says that if you're wrong in this life, you get do-overs until you get it right...

I believe Nygdan was talking about "the big 3 propaganda religions". In this case, you could hardly blame judaism for pushing itself on you. Hence, the next biggest thing would be Buddhism. I'm not familiar with the statistics on world religions, but I'd not be surprised if Buddhism isn't as low key as people take it. It seems to have been majorly "commercialised" recently to get Westerners who are frustrated with what they consider lumbering authoritarian regimes (ie. Christianity, Judaism, Islam) interested.

the number 3 religion in terms of adherents is hinduism

buddhism doesn't push itself on anyone
speaker was bringing up the fact the judaism is "our way or no heaven"

it hasn't been really commercialized, people have just been looking to a part of the world that they had overlooked because in the past they lacked the resources to properly study it

buddhism is actually the fastest growing religion in america

I guess we shouldn't expect any less from a Muslim.

just like we can expect more from priests that rape little children or the people that run jesus camp, ha?

You dont see me bashing christianity for mistakes of one or few. Just because some muslims believe or do certain things doesnt mean that Islam is that way.

Thats whats wrong with people today... they have to blame an entire religion for faults of a few.

if you were a real intelectual you would be able to see the connections that all religions share but you cant seem to look past the mistakes of a few.

Obviously you haven't read very many of my posts. If you had, you'd know that I am not exactly easy on Christianity either. As a matter of fact, since I tend to have my own personal beliefs, I am not particularly fond of any "organized" religious practice.

Thank you,madness.. Though I may not agree with your atheism,I do think that you are a good person as well.
Madness,I do try to be tolerant. However, there are things in the world which are not very tolerable, but generally, people have a unified consensus against those things.
