I'd like to hear some thoughts on the most underrated/overrated singer, in any genre.

I don't know about Underrated, but I believe that the most Overrated singer would have to be Robbie Williams.

(and to a lesser extent, Justin Timberlake)

Mick Jagger.

Yeah, I know he's a showman but can't sing to save his life. He's NO Freddie.

LOL, I think it's caused by Lip lag. you know, objects in motion tend to stay in motion, and all that physics stuff.

Paul Rogers of Bad company, had/has one of the best rock n roll voices.

As a matter of fact, I think he filling in for Freddie sometimes, isn't he?

Bob Dylan, definitely

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . BOB DYLAN

Why?

He is underrated for not being able to sing (some say)

But he sure make them words sing to you.

Underrated? I'll say Tom Delonge.

Overrated? Let's go with every boy band or punk kid who does nothing but victimize themselves in their lyrics. Sick of this crap they feed us.

Underrated?

As a mainstream singer, SUCKED. Whiney voice. He did opera and proved his chops. I know, it hurts me to say it but he wailed.............

Michael Bolton.

Youtube will prove his voice.

Over rated - Madonna who can't sing in tune but makes loads of money selling rubbish records and booking out vast tours to the deaf / gullible

Under rated - Sandy Denny (who?) voice of an angel, fantastic song-writer, massively influential but almost forgotten.

There is no god

HA. I'd have to agree with Michael Bolton and Mick Jagger both. Terrible singers.

Overrated:

1. Taylor Hicks, I can sing better than him with my nuts in a vice.
2. Britney Spears, sounds like a sheep.
3. That kid from New Kids on the Block that sounded like a chick.
4. Bob Dylan, horrible, brain hemmoraging vocals.

Underrated:

1. Steve Perry
2. Eddie Money
3. Sammy Hagar

Peace

I'd disagree that Steve Perry is underrated. I'd argue that he's one of the most celebrated singers in the last 20+ years. Its his voice which made Journey identifiable instantly, even though they now have a singer that can mimic him...

Over rated:
Britney Spears - please............
Geddy Lee - I'd rather hear nails on a chalk board

Under rated:
Steven Tyler
Paul Rogers
Lou Graham
Rob Thomas (I'm not so sure that he's under rated, but man, that boy can sing!)

Underrated - Eddie Money..

Dr Love you are a god damn musical genius!

A few of his songs are on my favorites list.

How about Journey? I'd say they are underrated.

Overrated:

I know this will get some people itching for their pitchforks, but Robert Plant never did anything for me vocally. I just don't see what's so great.

Underrated:

Tom Waits. On his first two albums, Closing Time and Looking For the Heart of Saturday Night, he had a beautiful crisp voice. And as he grew his trademarked gruff vocals his vocals became something of his own. Someone else singing his songs just isn't the same. His voice carries so much emotion and pain in many of his songs it's at times heartbreaking.
