I'm a firm believer in faith. I have faith in GOD and Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, yet i'm not a religious person. I'm just seeking truth in my life. I've had multiple life threatening events in my life and i'm trying to figure out why. I was in IRAQ for a year, got shot at by sniper, didn't get hit, i was stepping on a burried bomb, it didn't blow up because somebody tripped on the wire and it stopped, scorpion was sleeping under me, i almost got stung by one but heard some noise that made me jump. I almost got ran over 3 weeks ago, but the drunk driver stopped. This guy was drunk big time so don't know how he stopped, specially because a block away from me he ended up crashing into a car without slamming on the breaks. So because of all this I would like answers. How does one as Human get to find answers. I mean I now know i have a missiong from GOD but if i don't find out before i die, they i have failed my mission. If there's any method out there that anyone has been successful please pass the word. Thanks

Please post any near death experiences here too...

harvosky you say you believe in GOD, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit but you are not religious. My advice is that you find a good Bible based church and give your life to Jesus. Pray for guidance and listen for the answers.

If you like you can read about my near death experience by clicking on the link in my signature.

Blessings to you...

Well I have always thought that our mission will become clear to us in due time, I believe I have a mission to, due to all my near death experiances, they all started when I was five when had my arm slashed open, I lost more blood then anyone in my family combined, the doctor said that it was a game if milimetres, that one almost killed me, I was ran over by a bus, and not a school one, a city bus, didnt break aa single bone and walked away with barely a scratch, got hit in the head with a chairlift, once again a game of milimetres, fell off a cliff and came very close to hitting some rocks, I have been ingulfed in flames, nearly drowned, electricuted at least 5 times, some of these seem not so near death, but it doesnt make sense how one can walk away from so many things without being perminatly injured, the only one that ever left a mark on me was when I was 5 and my wrist got slashed. oh yah, one more, I almost fell into the grand canyon, dont think I would have walked away from that one, but I do believe I have a purpose, and I do believe that it will become clear when I am ready to fulfill my purpose, thats just my thoughts.

HI pshkwamy and kinglizard,

I forgot to mention when my anger got the best of me I was playing hockey and was loosing and decided to break this fire hose thing that was hanging on the wall. I slashed my arm open and have a permanent scar on my right arm that nicked the artery. Since I've stopped being a sore looser and have opened up. I think that when we decide to follow the path of righteousness, like socrates once said in the past by being virtues and leaving all temptations aside we will be one. I have a spiritual person i talk to and has told me a lot of things. Things about me changing so i can unlock my inner powers god wants me to have. She said my mission was helping people, but unless i'm good to my two love ones, my mom and my future wife, then i won't be able to have my powers. Right now i'm studying to be a doctor and she said that was the way i would help others. I've left a lot of stuff already and have decided to listen, yeah i'm a bit stubborn but i started to see the light. Thanks guys for sharing this, have you guys found anything out by seeking inner peace? I think somebody once told me that I need to be in peace within in order for me to see. The thing about reading the bible is that it has changed throughout time. It works as a guidance in a way but soo many people have changed few words around to make their beliefs known. That's why i say i'm not a religious person just have faith.

P.S I forgot to mention that my dad took my mom to get an abortion, she got three injections so i wouldn't be born, yet here i am.

If you truly wish to know your "mission" in life you don't need a church or anything like that. You most certainly should attend these things if they truly interest you though, it's all up to you. Sit alone, away from distractions and know that you are doing this with the soul intention of discovering your purpose here. Talk to whatever you pray to with love in your heart and ask for your mission in life to be revealed.

If it is not clear to you immediately after deep reflection, then you will know when you are ready to. Even though your mind may tell you that you are ready your true self knows if you are truly ready. Don't worry about dying, that won't necessarily stop you from completing your mission, in all actuality it may not be until you die that you are ready to start. In time you will know, and even though it can be frustrating not to know just remember that you are being taken care of and you are loved.

Harv,

I don't like to talk about my NDE often but it's funny how it happened just a week after we had this bridge dedication--mission complete.

A Bridge for Brad

For a whole year after Bradley's death in Iraq, my life revolved around making a memorial to him, working with his parents, the community, the state legislature, the department of transportation (I worked for them at the time).

The week after all was said and done, I had a heart attack and ended up in the cardiac unit for bypass surgery. Thru the actions of my son who got me to the hospital and the medical personnel, my life was spared.

God bless them ...and God blessed me.

I agree. If you've never received Christ as Savior, do it now. Your life threatening events are a blessing in disguise. What they have done, is take your mind off of yourself and turned them toward eternal things.

Thanks for all you did in Iraq

p.s. on a sidenote, I have heard reports of people, especially christians, who went to Iraq in 1991. When they actually crossed the border into Iraq, they felt an extreme sense of evil, (as in there is something on the demonic order in this place) as they entered the country. I am wondering if you felt anything like that?

You know what?? April of 2004, can't remember the day exactly but the sky turned orange, we had a sand storm and we were out in a mission. We couldn't see anything through our goggles. That day seem like hell man. It send chills down my spine just thinking about it. That day we had 69 missles fired at our camp, 24 car bombs, 25 dead, 110 mortars hit our camp. It was the worst time I had and the most work we did. Honestly all of us just wanted to shot our weapons when ever we ended up getting shot at. I mean a lot of people went to seek therapy, even me because it seemed like a nightmare going through this crap. So you can say I'm a survivor and have been to hell and back. I actually feel earth is hell, because how many people have said "why do good people always die" well if they die they moved on to their other mission. I don't need to go to church to accept christ. It's about having the heart to realize you've been wrong all the time. Be open minded and start fresh. That's my thoughts on that. I appreciate all of you guys opening up and sharing your experiences. Iraq really changed my perspective about life. I love life and i'm not afraid to die. I came close soo many times i just don't even flinge. Like the drunk driver that almost hit me, i kept walking and said # it after he stopped. I didn't even tell him off i kept going and my younger bro said...damn dude...

Hi Harvosky!

All your responses on this thread are great! It’s difficult to find anything they’ve left out. They’re all good advice. The only thing I’d like to add is this:

One way to move forward is to turn the other cheek at all times saying a nice word or two in response. Also, do the “what would Christ do?” question before moving ahead with anything. After awhile it will become natural for you to “do what Christ would want you to do” and you will see your life moving forward in a very positive way, opportunities will start showing up almost daily and once again applying the “WWCD?” question to them you will find yourself in the midst of the mission you are searching for now. You won’t even realize you are heading towards it as you go, sometimes it will seem as though you’ve taken a step to the side, but later looking back you will see that you were moving forwards all the while. Hope this helps,

STM

Hi Harvosky!

I'm STM's son. I would like to respond to your initial post concerning finding your mission in life. One thing that we all need to be reminded of is that GOD gave us free will and the ability to make our own choices. You seem to be very sincere and honest in your posts so I will respond with the same merit. Through GOD's love and benevolence you will find peace and solice. Like all healthy relationships though it takes time and effort on your part to build it. Once you have worked on this you will find that a life mission might not be what you are seeking. What you might find that you are truly seeking is first, a undiscriminating and unbounded love. Love is not limited, especially when it is GOD's love flowing through you.

Secondly, you might find you are looking for a way to be comfortable with yourself and find self forgiveness which is harder than it sounds, because it involves gradually letting go of a lot of your fear. Fear is catalyst of many negative beliefs and emotions that we all have (yours truly included). GOD will give you the love and free will, the rest is mostly up to us. If you choose to have a purpose you can have one, if you choose to Love others and yourself you can do that as well.

I am currently a college counselor in Texas. One thing I tell all of the students that are having trouble, whether it be academically or emotionally is that making the choice to change or find purpose is a necessary but not sufficient means of change. It is the first step. The hard part is to start creating or performing behaviors of change. If you are having trouble with anger you can ask GOD for help and talk it over with a therapist that will help you to find better ways to channel it or abolish it. They will help you learn new and less aggressive ways to behave, that is if you really want to change. Some people get a pay off from acting the way they do and if the pay off from acting aggressive yeilds more to them than changing then they will never change. It is a difficult process and requires a lot of work but it is very effective.

In summation you have already started the correct path, you are just looking for guidance. You will find your purpose in life, and guess what? You will choose it. Looking to GOD will give you more strength, love and more importantly self love. Once you feel more confident in yourself you will choose a path or mission or maybe you will just simply be. In the end no matter what you decide make sure to be meaningful in your decision.

Praying for the best for you,

Stephen

Just follow your heart, and it will show you the way.See what people dont realize is that you dont need religon to become a spiritaul person. It all starts from within, not in the pages of a book.

Jesus Christ is the save-your.He is the redeemer of is-real.And the King of the earth, Amen.

I'm just seeking truth in my life

Thats what were here for buddy,to find the truth, and once you find it,hold on to it and dont ever let it go.

.

I've had multiple life threatening events in my life and i'm trying to figure out why. Damn man,lol that is crazy, but look on the bright side ,your ALIVE..and of course there is a reason why.See God was just testing you.Like you said your not religous. Most people build there faith thru reliogn.God decided to build his faith in you in a different way.It was all a test,to tell weather you really believe or not.And since your alive now,you obviously must have passed the "faith test"

YOUR ALIVE!!!! get happy.

So because of all this I would like answers. How does one as Human get to find answers. I mean I now know i have a missiong from GOD but if i don't find out before i die, they i have failed my mission. If there's any method out there that anyone has been successful please pass the word. Thanks

For now your mission is just to STAY ALIVE. be thankful god has been watching over you.God is the reason for everything, there is no such thing as being lucky.Everything has its reasons.Just wait and the answers will manifest themselves to you.

Good luck man,I hope to hear fromyou soon.

Peace!!

Yeah i'm more than happy I'm alive. I'm also a miracle child too. So since I've found that out all my life I've gone through a lot of violence, at home, WAR in Iraq and within, at the present time i'm in peace and yes i've had really #ty experiences with relationships. You know what....I've learned to not hate but to move on. I see it as a learning event in my life. I will continue my faith with God and continue to be more like Christ. A bit hard but I think it's duable.

i may not be a religious purpose, but i say you start with helping out others

just go around and do good for others at every opportunity, and something you love to do will eventually come up

I do help out others most of the time. I see a homeless i give them a dollar or whatever else i can at the time. I will look into perhaps not helping out with money but literally help somebody out physically, i don't know....old man cross the street, handicap, blind, all that. I will see this as a hint and will continue to live but doing more for humanity. One thing I could do is teach CPR but unfortunately my CPR card is expired...so there goes that idea. Hmmmm i must think and see what i should do...

"got shot by a sniper, didn't get hit"...???????

maybe got shot AT by a sniper?

i once asked a very wise woman "how do i know what i should do in life?"
and her reply was "do what you do best!" (knowing that masturbation wasn't a plausible financial directive, i chose design)

it took 5 years for that voice of wisdom to come to fruition, but it made all the sense in the world later in life when it was time to carve out schooling.

OT: what's up with so much religious banter on ats/bts?? it just seems off in light of the audience at bay. is this really the best faucet for the theme at hand?
