New mutated Bird Flu Strain infecting humans

A new strain of Bird Flu has been detected in China which proves to be resistant to modern day Bird Flu vaccines. Scientists, such as Yi Guan of the University of Hong Kong, have called this new strain as 'H5N1 Fujian-like.' Though this strain can infect humans, it can not be transmitted from person to person. Scientists are working on creating a new vaccine for the H5N1.

Scientists uncover new bird flu strain

Scientists have discovered a new strain of bird flu that appears to sidestep current vaccines. It's infecting people as well as poultry in Asia, and some researchers fear its evolution may have been steered by the vaccination programs designed to protect poultry from earlier types of the H5N1 flu.

My view on this is that this is going to cause a global pandemic. It's going to mutate far too quickly, leaving little time for scientists to create vaccines for every new mutation.

Yikes! I know that there has been discussion of this sort of thing happening for some time. Out of curiousity why is this in BTS?

Kind of crazy to think that the flu has only been around a little more than a hundred years.

I couldn't get this to post anywhere else. The site has been giving me problems with posting in some areas, and I suspect it has to do with my browser.

Something not mentioned often is that this flu is also spread through swine, as well as birds.
