From the Guardian today: a second nuclear test could be in preparation by North Korea, in defiance of universal condemnation.

North Korea entered into a new and dangerous phase of brinkmanship with the US yesterday when it labelled sanctions a declaration of war amid fears
it might be preparing a second nuclear test.
The US nuclear envoy, Christopher Hill, during a visit to South Korea, warned that another test would be "a very belligerent answer" to the world.
As tens of thousands of North Koreans participated in a torchlight parade in Pyongyang to mark Anti-Imperialism Day, its foreign ministry dashed hopes
that sanctions might force it to return to negotiations. "The resolution cannot be construed otherwise than a declaration of a war," the ministry
said.

To detonate one device could be argued as brinkmanship and leverage in negotiations; to detonate two appears to be idiotic. What exactly is North
Korea trying to prove by exploding a second nuke, other than the fact they are totally unfazed by threats of sanctions by the UN Security Council?
Well, the first one did not exactly go off as hoped. They have to keep testing until they get it right. I mean a bomb with a 0.5 KT yield is not much
of a deterrent when the average US nuclear bomb is about 375 KT (range between 0.5 KT to 750 KT I believe).
could be they trying to get the bugs out.and or just another snub at the u.n.either way when have sanctions ever worked to change policy.they usualy
just harm the citizens not the admin.
The military is the true power in North Korea. Little Kim needs to keep proving to them that he is tuff enuf to be their leader. So he starves his
populace in order to feed his military, and continues to act belligerent towards the west.
Btw, Little Kim is in power only because of the previous dictator, his daddy.
