I was just wondering if any of you have ever tried any of those old superstitions from childhood. Blood Mary, etc...? If you have, what was your experience? Do you think these things have any merit, or are they just cases of your mind manifesting something you "want" to see?

nyk537 could you be more specific about what old superstitions you're talking about? What is Blood Mary?

I used to hear these stories when I was a child. Supposedly if you looked into a mirror in a dark room and repeated "Bloody Mary" into the mirror, you would see a demon or something. I am not sure of the exact story but I do remember that much. Heres a link...

I've never heard this before about bloody mary. It's interesting. What I have heard is that you can gaze into a mirror and see the future, past or the spirit of someone who's passed on. You have to gaze into the mirror in a dark room. I've also heard that people used to cover all the mirrors in a house after someone died so that the departing soul would not be startled by it's image as it left the house.

I've never tried the mirror thing. It sounds too scarey. LOL.

Yeah I never have either. I don't think I believe in that, but when I was younger the seed was planted that something "could" happen. So it still keeps me from trying it even today. I know nothing would happen, but I just can't do it.

....and there's no prizes or ATS points for guessing the results.... Yet another contemporary myth.
Go on Elaine, give it a whirl.... then report back with the result.

What is that supposed to mean?

I've heard of this, but the variant I heard was a bit different, I think 'blood mary' had to be said when the mirror was submerged in a river or something. I think Asala posted something about it yonks ago.

And, yeah, it don't work, I tried it.

It does work. My friends sisters roomie tried it and came out bleeding like hell

You sure? Because I was fine, no bleeding, no horrible side effects, demon claws, etc.

Think about it, dark room, mirror, came out bleeding, maybe she walked into it!

The scratches went to the bone? So muscle would have been ripped I presume?

Unless you where there, it sounds like your friend was pulling your leg.

Yeah. I've heard of people who do this sometimes wake up with small scratches on their cheeks and face. I've never heard of anyone being attacked "while" doing it. Especially being cut to the bone. Sounds like a little overkill to me.

I've tried the 'Bloody Mary' thing a long time ago and it didn't work, and I just tried it again, and it didn't work. You're supposed to say Mary's full name in the dark 3 times. Her realname is Mary Worth.

Last month I had an injury that went so deep that it was centimeters away from the bone. That was a month ago, and I could only start walking properly last week. I still can't manage stairs by myself.

Moral of the story?

My friends sisters roomie tried it and came out bleeding like hell

the scratches went to the bone.

There is no way that your sisters friend can be that damaged, and still manage to simply "come out."

I did it again. To be honest, I feel like a complete fool, standing in the dark, talking to myself.

I'm pretty sure we can call this as debunked.

Little known fact, it does work.
Here's how you do it.
1)Take any metal and paper out of your pockets. -This includes money, etc
2)Go to your local cocktail bar. Make sure there is plenty of security.
3)Walk over to the bartender.
4)Say "Bloody Mary" 10 times.
5)If you followed the steps correctly , you will wake up in an alleyway, hurting and covered in your own blood.
