Not the worst thing you ever ate but the worst restaurant / pub / grub experience ?

I get really annoyed with going out with my young family and being given awful food - I find it insulting.

A couple of week sago me and my wife and Eleanor (4) and Ian(2) went out to our local pub for a Sunday dinner.

We arrived at 11.45 and went to the bar for some drinks and to order but were told we couldnt order anything until 12.00... why were they open since 11.00 ????
Plus in the next 15 minutes the place filled up.

At 12.00 on the dot we went up to order, I ordered a traditional Roast Beef dinner my wife asked for a roast chicken dinner and asked for a small chicken roast for the kids. They said they couldnt do it as it was a 1/2 roast chicken. We explained that we would pay the same money for a smaller portion but they still said no.
So we ordered a full roast for my daughter and a Lasagne for my littl elad Ian.

About 40 minutes later the food arrived. Ians Lasagne was mostly black and chewy and dangerously hot due to over microwaving then extra 'ovening' (if I can make up a word).

Eleanor was preesnted with the biggest plat e of food I have ever seen with a huge pale un-seasoned 1/2 chicken pereched on top and she looked as if she was going to cry.

My roast dinner was terrible - a huge amount of bone dry thick cut meat - grey and tasteless.

Yet people were oohing and aaahing because they were getting huge plates of food !!!

I got up and left cause it was so bad. I didnt want to complain as it would have upset my little girl who had struggled with her dinner as best as she could.

Why do these places operate like this ????

I remember when i was a kid i went to a place called the Little Chef (they are all over the place back where i live), they mostly do breakfast type meals concentrating on frying up stuff.
I ordered what they called the "Atheletes breakfast" (huge fry up) as i hadn't eaten all day (it was like 6pm when i got there) and was starving, so i ordered an ice cream as well for desert called "happy sunday" or something. The breakfast fry was pretty bad- the mushrooms had been so deap fried in their batter there was little left of the mushrooms inside the rock hard greasy batter, they were like shrivled greasy bits of leather. The sausage was so oily that it was dripping with oil, and the bacon was so thin and overcooked it literally broke when i tried to cut it.
Pretty much everything was seriously overcooked on the plate in one way or another, but i was so hungry and had waited so long to get the food i ended up eating it anyway. But the ice cream was the worst- i have never seen anything so bright and yellow, it looked like it was almost radioactive. It was that cheap animal fat type ice cream, pumped to the brim with colourings and sweetners- just trying to eat it made my stomache want to rebel. I went back home feeling pretty sick after that (although i did complain, i kinda thought "whats the point?")...

Bad meals are certainly a disppointment, especially when you pay a lot of money.

I can't say I remember the last truly horrid meal I last had in a restaurant, the food around here tends to be pretty good. More often is when you go to some over-hyped way too expensive restaurant, wait forever and pay an arm and a leg, then the food turns out to be not much better than you get from a neighborhood eatery.

Anything from Denny's, ever.

I ordered a "Moons over my hammie" recently, and the scrambled eggs were runny and had eggshells in them. I guess it doesn't count because I refused to pay for it, but everything else I've ever gotten from Denny's has been terrible.

I got a double cheeseburger from Mcdonalds once, I paid at the drive through, went home, ate 2/3 of it and on the last bite my teeth caught something thick and rubbery that I could not bite through. I thought it was a stale pickle or something, but it was a folded up, used bandaid!

Muskogee, OK has some of the worst food service ever.

I had a bowl of Menudo [pig tripe soup] [very chewy] in a little place in Juarez called Cherry Hill. With a side order of Chichirones [fried pig guts]. 10 pesos as I recall. The Corn tortillas were free and the service was first class.

When you're hammered on Cruz Blanca and cough syrup you will eat most anything. But once is usually enough even for the stout hearted.

One particular Taco Bell a buddy of mine and I went to often, we always thought the beverages smelled funny and couldn't figure out why.

Turns out after observation, that the hefty woman working the drive thru always stuck the lid under her armpit to hold while she held the cup with one hand and pressed the fill button with the other at the soda fountain.

Lids always smelled like armpit.....NASTY!

this one is easy for me.

fatty arbuckells about 4 years ago.
order some ribs, they arive 10 minutes later...still frozen...sent them back...came back 10 minutes later and all they had done was stick the entire plate of food in the microwave, including the salad garnish.

but long enough because the ribs were still cold to the touch in the middle.

was not impressed.

did get £100 in high street vouchers in exchange for my silence.

I remember this because it happened so recently. I lived my earlier years in Los Angeles and when I was a kid my family used to go to this restaraunt called Northwoods all the time. I loved that place and had fond memories of the food and atmosphere. Well, just recently my grandmother passed away and we had to go to L.A. for the funeral. So the very first night we were there we went to Northwoods and the place was a dump. My freakin waiter was coked up and nearly impaled my head with a butterknife. The drinks were crap and the food was crap and my dreams were shattered. The second night I wanted to go to Bob's Big Boy but they all shut down. When in the hell did Bob's freakin' Big Boy shut down in L.A., they were all over the place?

Peace

See, THIS is the kind of stuff that has me rolling on the floor wheezing. That's the best laugh I've had all week.

I think it was the Luau we went to when I was in Maui. Of course I'd do it all over again just for the show, but the food was horrible
The show was great

I was at a restaurant with my then wife,

I was trying to be more diverse because the mrss was getting bored that I would order the same thing no matter what restaurant we went to.

What I ended up ordering was cut up beef and potato balls

We called it the short bus special and had a great laugh...
