I want one.
www.gizmodo.com...

I want one.
Except mine needs to be black, and bulletproof.

But I want one. Before I buy a house, get married, or start a family....I want one.

that thing was freakin awesome!! I would have to agree that those bullets would sting like a B. If i had one of those, i wouldn't even know what to do with it. Maybe i would put marshmallows in the guns and shoot them at kids, mmmm marshmallows.

Ah yes, this. I saw this a while back, last year I believe. I spent some time researching it as did others in my Robotics engineering group. Aparrently, the feet never actually leave the ground. There are some form of pressure locking bearings under the feet. Sorry to dissapoint you guys.

All in all though, it's pretty cool looking never-the-less.

The way I figure it though, the more groups make hobby style walkers like this, the more others will be inclined to make a biped walking system that actually can step over objects.

There's also a 6 legged walker out that does actually step over whats in it's way. It's designed to be used in forrestry, with safe removal of trees in mind. It looked like a scorpion, but it was completley ready for commercial use. Actually is in commercial luse if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can't find the link.

-EDIT-

No link yet, but here's a pic.

Looks like a big paintball robot to me. I can just imagine the military looking at this and modifying the concept. Make it fast and maneuverable over land and add very good AI and you have something resembling a big, fast, smart dinosaur.

At the moment it looks more impressive when standing still. I'm thinking if it was fast with two multi-turrented gun mounts, it would be much more impressive.

I really would like it if someone would invent shield technology for buildings and personal use. We just need tiny fusion packs and shield technology.

If you think about the first airplane and this robot here, perhaps in 50 years, the Terminator from the movies will be here. Now if the Terminator had shield technology like the Borg in Star Trek, that would be an impressive fighting force.

I believe it's either Swedish technology or Noweigen tech. All those countries have Forrestry practices decades beyond what we practice in N. America.

I would make the autonomous version smaller and semi-transformable(Like having various modes, like Entrenchment where it shoots 3 meter telescoping rods into the ground for reduced recoil and possibly to fire a main weapon, then travel form where the 'bot travels in all four(or more) limbs and then a city sweeper mode where it will travel slowly and quietly in the city looking for prey)

That forestry Scorpian looking equipment is what I would like to have, but in chameleon capable digital and of course armored. Throw some custom fabrication on it and it could be potential "Individual Mechanized Armor".

Going to have to wait and see how this threads robot is improved, then i am sure it will be more capable. Just look at Honda, if they designed the legs that walker would be top notch.

Here come the days of real life mechwarrior / robotech kind of stuff..

I always wanted to have my own Mechwarrior..can't wait till their a bit more agile, imagine if they could jump

I'm going to build a better landwalkertrap.

With you lot barging about everywhere in your armour-plated, stealth-capable, antisocial, environmentally unsound landwalkers, I'm going to have a lot of customers.

Don't say you weren't warned.

You mean like a bear trap except in this case, instead of sharp jaws, you'll put explosives so when the trap is sprung, the leg(s) will be sheared off. Of course, such a trap would not work for a 6+ legged walker.

For my walker I want a Chevaline. What's that you ask? Well it's basically an ultra-light artificial horse that can run up to speeds of 80 mph, and retract into a suitcase for easy storage

You're not winkling my trade secrets out of me that easily. Thought I was born yesterday? But I'll tell you this much: my Landwalkertrap(TM) will use real cutting-edge technology. No primitive flashes and bangs. This lot won't even know what hit 'em.

For my walker I want a Chevaline.

With a small compartment in it for a bowler hat and a handful of time-defying fortune cookies, right? I used to have one of those but it got damaged in the Retreat from Pudong.

Next time, I'll take a destrier. The best machines are designed and built Mother Nature's way.

Yeah, I used to have a Honda dirt bike like that. Never went anywhere it didn't want to. I lent it to a 'friend' who 'sold' it to a marijuana farmer of his acquaintance. Left me for a pothead and I never saw the faithless thing again.

Robot wars.

Imagine this Biped vs the 6ped in a battle to the death. This could be the next challenger.

I'm glad to see people putting effort into the sci-fi reality thing. If my future didn't have giant flame throwing and rocket launching robots I would be very dissapointed. I guess cartoons have ruined me.

Yeah, attack of the giant mechanical insects.

By the way, I think the kosher word for 6ped is 'hexapod', though I must say your coinage is nicely terse and unambiguous.

That thing seems kind of stupid considering it doesnt even really walk! It looks like it has wheels and sort of rolls forward one leg at a time
I bet it would get stuck if you tried to take it offroad or even off the smooth concrete
I also have to say that I thought it sounded very rickety in the video, especially for something he wants to sell for 350K!

I dont see much use as a military weapon. That thing would just be a hige target sticking up like a sore thumb, and I bet one 120mm round would knock it on its butt and then what

Boooo
Say Nay to nay sayers!!!

This thing is awesome!!

I'm not in the military, so I don't care if it sticks out.
It's a giant robot that shoots missiles and guns. Even if it's an early form of tech to come, it's still awesome.

Dude, that thing would topple over if it ran into a mole hill. Bam! Stoped dead in it's tracks. I have a feeling that you could knock it over with a good strong shoulder check. And if that didn't work my neighbors '83 honda civic could knock it over by accident just back out of his driveway.

The cab looks awsome though, almost like those small personal sized walkers from Star Wars. They need to build it so that it can lift it's feet, and be able to out run a tree sloth.

I want one when the landwalker 2.0 comes out. I want it to be bigger, scarier, I want it to have glowing eyes, and to use it to scare people looking out their second story windows. The flame thrower would be nice too.

Hm, pretty cool robot, definately needs work, but the concept is great.

I have to say though, I want one of those Norwegian/Finnish hexapod robots.
Give it an electrochromatic skin, a sniper rifle n place of the tree cutting part,
yeah that'd be the greatest thing ever.

Oh, and I thought I'd just add, the hexapod tree cutting robot, it's actualy
made to be good for the environment, by not leave skidmarks from trucks,
that and it does'nt destroy all the undergrowth of the forest floor.
