Well, I've got something like 'Mexican Burritos' or whatever the brand name is in my pantry. Why is a Russian salad called 'American Salad' so weird?

Haha! Whilst I love a good conspiracy, I really don't think that there is one here. It's a simple matter of marketing. After being poor for so long the Russians like to be associated with Western things. And on a side note, it does not look at all tasty.
