Reason for lack of real action on Global Warming

Hello, I have decided to present to you all a possible reason that there is a lack of a sustained, global effort to try to reverse Global Warming. I have been doing personal research for the last year using the net, going only to sites that offer concrete science on the subject.

As you all know probably, Global Warming has a good chance to trigger a 'flash' Ice Age, one that arrives very quickly, but does not last as long as a 'true' Ice Age.

I might be flamed for this, and I might be giving more credit to the governments than they deserve, but I think the reason for the lack of action is the fact that it has been determined many times over by several scientific teams that we are in fact ALREADY past the point of 'no return' so to speak in terms of Global Warming.

I do not have much proof about this, but I do have a solid backround in what's known about the Earth's climate, and most importantly I have an open mind. I think we are at the very start of one of these 'mini' Ice Age's, one that was going to happen NATURALLY, but has been greatly boosted by Human activity, and was triggered much earlier than it was going to be.

I also think it's going to be a much more 'shocking' transition to this mini Ice Age. Instead of the climate switching to this new global pattern - which is NORMAL and has happened many times in the past history of the Earth as far as we can tell from various tests - slowly over hundreds of years, it's going to take place at a much much faster pace, due to Human interference, which was never a player before.

Now here is the scary part.

My best estimate is that we will start to see many more shocking things coming from the climate over the next 15 years, things like the current Greenland ice melt, the open ocean to the North Pole, etc. Around 20-30 years from now, we will rapidly start to see ( and feel! ) the real noticeable part of this coming mini Ice Age.

In 50 years time, I expect it to be in full force and that we will have alot more to worry about than simple wars between each other. I am 29 right now, I frankly hope in 50 years that I will be deceased, having lived a full life. Sadly, if I am right, I won't be able to be buried in my home state - Wisconsin - because it will be under large amounts of ice and snow - measured in tens of feet, not inches.

I will be the first one to say I really hope I am wrong, but I am getting a real gut feeling that we are in imminent trouble, trouble that is being masked by idiotic politics and cold hard cash.

And then, if the big players already have come to this conclusion that we ARE in this ice age, triggered by Global Warming we enhanced..... why should they spend huge amounts of cash and effort to try to 'fix' what is already triggered?

And if I was really paranoid... and wanted to insure my county would survive the coming mini ice age... I might try to secure countries that have resources that will greatly help during the event... like say, oil?

Finally, I do feel that if I am right, humans will make it through this mini Ice Age, even though it will last hundreds of years or possibly more, as long at it takes to repair the climate and the ocean conveyor belts.

Thank you for your time, and have a nice day!

- Mike W

The reason global warming is not a high priority among the public is the public is tired of hearing 'scientists' cry wolf.

Remember acid rain? global cooling? The alar hoax? swine flu? or any of the dozens of other great 'doom and gloom' predictions of the past? All have come to naught, or if they occurred at all the effects were far far less than the dire predictions.

Rightly or wrongly the public yawns when they hear the latest end of the world speech. Because they have heard the world is ending time and time again, and it never happened.

Too many other more pressing issues occupy the public attention right now. Something that may or may not happen, and may or may not have a major personal impact on them decades from now is not very high on the priority list.

To Vanguarde, a number of recent stories on the Scientific American website discuss both the scientific response to global warming and new data. That link is:

www.scientificamerican.com...

For example, a recent about-face by a former Scientific American climate change skeptic can be found in the June 2006 entry in the regular SciAm "Skeptic" column. Title of that article is: The Flipping Point: How the evidence for anthropogenic global warming has converged to cause this environmental skeptic to make a cognitive flip.

Also see this month's article in their Earth Science section for current reports on warming.

Check out the movie 'who killed the electric car', or the links to the news story in the guardian detailing how Exonmobile is funding groups debunking climate change evidence. Big business is stopping the develop of alternatives. Why? Well, certainly pyschotic greed comes into it (never underestimate greed--its an addiction), and it also appears they want to kill a lot of people by encouraging climate change. The world is overpopulated after all, but there are better ways of doing it.

Remember acid rain?

We're still dealing with it.

global cooling?

You do realize that the number of papers (scientific papers) dealing with Global Cooling number just over a dozen. By Contrast, the number of papers dealing with GW is now in the thousands.

The alar hoax?

All I could find on this are sites with obvious agendas. The Nature of the internet have of course obfuscated the issue and made it so that noone will no the truth in that respect.

swine flu?

Nope, so it obviously was a false flag. Lets see, One False flag(swine flu), one Hypothetical Cooling Trend that never gained Academic Acceptance, one "hoax", and one ongoing problem.

Yeah you sure made your point. /sarcasm

or any of the dozens of other great 'doom and gloom' predictions of the past? All have come to naught, or if they occurred at all the effects were far far less than the dire predictions.

I know you work for the Oil cartels, but jeeze, do you have to make you allegiences so damn obvious?

Vanguarde...
First off "Hey Der!" from another cheesehead.
Secondly, I think you're partially right but I think they're not doing anything because they realize we're all going to be dead in 2012.
Thirdly, don't fret about all the snow and ice in Wisconsin. Look at it this way, thanks to global warming, we're going to have Florida-like weather during the next few years and then in 2012 we won't have to worry about it anyway.

Global Warming is a desire of the HATE AMAERICA, Socialist, anti-capitalism crowd to punish America for existing.

I challenge anybody who will flame my response ( and I know you will) to state that they do not believe that the U.S is the leading cause of global warming.

You will trot out the tired "SUV, U.S is 10% of the world population and uses 45% of the world resources" arguement.

You flamers will state that INDIA,CHINA, INDONESIA are poor countries and we can't force restrictions on them but DEMOCRATIC, CAPITALIST AMERICA needs to be taken down a notch because of the Iraq war and Bush and Big Oil and the evil of capitalism.

Let it begin.

Not a new idea but human activity is only a part of global warming. If that is the case then it does not matter what we do at this point. A good extent of what drives this condition is external to the earth and we are only aggrivating the problem. Can humanity go backwards to buy more time for itself? Of course it can but at great cost and then also to lose the chance to find ways to cope with what is coming is the real opportunity cost of listening and obeying the anti-capitalists. We need our technology more than ever now and all the problems that go with it if we are to survive into the future.

I think a major reason is that Global Warming is based on very recent information as far as the history of the planet is concerned. For instance I saw a show the other day on the Hitory Channel about the "Little Ice Age", among other things the show stated that the Earth now is actually cooler than it was during the Middle Ages by a noticable amount.

Here're a few other points that have me questioning how dire all this Global Warming stuff is:

The Sahara used to be fertile and hospitable until the Earth shifted

The whole freaking planet was pretty well covered in ice for a good long time and if the whole planet didn't warm dramatically we'd still be wearing fur 24/7

The planet's tempeture is determined by a great many factors, many, like solar activity, dwarf our own ability to screw things up.

BUT the major reason I'm not a proponent of the Global Warming hoopla is because instead of worrying about the tempeture in 100 years, or how much ice we have WE SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT GETTING OFF THIS DAMN PLANET!!!!!!

Lets face it, whether it's global warming, earthquakes, nuclear war, asteroids, aliens, or black holes the Earth's life is as finite as ours. The best we can hope for is to keep everything nice until the Sun goes nova and reclaims the Earth. If we spent even half the energy we do arguing and trying to kill eachother over some wrothless hunk of rock and put it towards advancing space travel we would be able to get off this planet when the time comes.

I personally feel Global Warming is another distraction meant to take attention away from the fact that we're all doomed no matter what if we can't get out of here when we need to.
