As early as in January 2007, a combat unit of GROM is to be sent to Afghanistan.
According to unofficial information from the Polish Ministry of Defense, "GROM will be sent there to kill", as an anonymous MoD official openly stated to a journalist of the daily Dziennik. According to this unconfirmed information, GROM's goal will be to eliminate the system of command of the Taliban guerrilla.
"They are not going there to dig trenches or control the traffic; they are going there to kill", said an anonymous colonel from the Ministry of Defense.
According to the Dziennik all combat squads of GROM are scheduled to be sent to Afghanistan one by one.
"They've packed their staff many times lately, yet there was no political decision. It was finally sealed by the Polish PM Jaroslaw Kaczynski during his last visit to the USA.", confirmed a senior officer of GROM.
"Their priority is to eliminate the leaders of the local Taliban geuerrilla. This will weaken their resistance as well as the support for them from the locals. This is to prepare the ground for other Polish regular combat units.", explains the officer.
