Weapons test on Civillians

I did give him credit.. and will continue to.. Im sorry if I was misunderstood.. What I Was getting at was that these weapons could be fitted to vehicles and used to corral people.. into whereever.... Pretty dangerous stuff if you ask me.. But when has the government cared about our safety

Well, I've already seen the sonic weapons when I was in NYC.
(then again, I was in NYC on the 10th and 11th of this month and I saw tons of military personell touting machine guns...now that doesn't make me feel any safer...)
It almost seems like that is the new back-drop for NY...

I'm not going to search through the 800 pages of Titor quotes, but he definitely called this one and I think his words were something like "when the military develops all these non-lethal weapons, the enemy they're planning to use them on is US" They're not planning to go into a warzone with non-lethal weapons...

The official term that should be used is "less lethal" .. the media being confused easily has changed this into less than lethal or non-lethal. "Less lethal" is just that ... it's less lethal than being shot with a gun but the potentional for death is still there. Less lethal examples include tasers, bean bags, plastic rounds in rifles and rubber bulltes. A plastic round is defintiely not as likely to kill as a bullet ... but take one to the head or even the chest and the potential for lethality is there.

The idea is that officers have more tools in the "use of force" matrix. If an subject armed with a pipe is approaching them they (depending on circumstances) may be able to use a "less lethal" weapon instead of having to resort straight to the handgun. Yes, stun guns have killed people, mostly those who are "high" on somre sort of illegal drug ... but I wonder how many they have saved??

I dont have much a problem with shocking a guy with a taser, because I know it isn't usually abused (but definately can be). Also its harder to kill them with a taser accidently. What I do have a problem with is them cooking american crowds with a big portable microwave.

Most police agencies DO require officers to take a hit from a Taser to become "Certified", they did the same thing with mace as well.

Now, with the new tasers, no, because they are too powerful. But yes, before the new ``versions`` they were obligated.

I think if the Military develops a new Weapons they shoudl test it on their own Soldiers.

Why? Soldiers are still American Citzens right? well.. not by law they're not..but still.. Why cant it be tested on the monster who thought of it? designed it and built it?

The creators should test them on themselves, everybody voting for it and everybody using it also. It should be like that for every less lethal weapons.

Soldiers are payed to follow orders - and they are payed to risk their lives.

We know it wont happen.. and Soldiers are paid to risk their lives.. But this guy isnt talking about testing it on Soldiers.. he wants to test it on U.S. Citizens...

Exactly, Im thinking the same thing - that crowd control is a nice euphemism for "those immoral liberal protesters" or anyone who disagrees with the govt. This is so sick. Good point about putting the animal in the microwave.

What in the hell is our government thinking? Sounds like the govt is very paranoid of its own citizens and for good reasons, they have really screwed the people of America for several decades.

Actually bad point, it shows the above poster has absolutely no idea how these less then lethal devices work. If you are fine with a water canon, tear gas, or rubber bullets you should be just as fine with his. New technology should not be feared due to lack of understanding.

...uh...he didn't mean to just start testing weapons on the average Joe. He meant that people who get paid to test this kind of crap on themselves should do it here before we start melting people over there. You know..people like those guys who taser each other.

Actually.. No.. in the article.. he clearly states American Civillians.. That's the average Joe... be it under riot circumstances or not.. it's testing a WEAPON on civillians.. TESTING.. something is TESTED to usually figure out its effects..

Hey you know what, I WANT TO BE A TEST SUBJECT FOR THIS WEAPON!

Now you think that I said that, maybe I will get a call to test it out? Being the first to test a new weapon of submission can have its benefits. Sure I may die a horrible death, but if I survive and the effects are minimal - none, I will possess knowledge on a weapon that will be used against the citizens.

In any case, the weapons shoot a directed concentrated beam, so if it hits part of your arm, you will not have organ damage. If it hits your shoulder, there are no problems. Maybe certain police departments known to have a high volume of kidnapping or hostage situation in their city can participate in a trial version of this weapon. What better target than a gun wileding-maniac on a street, in a bank or hotel lobby, or convinicne store? I think that is a fair and just test.

The fact that this thread even exists and continues to thrive attests to the fact that is is really, really grey area.

"Non lethal weapons", as many have correctly suggested, are in the league with bean bags, plastic bullets and whatever else (batons?).

I guess the real issue is that nobody's sure just how lethal they are and if they are a bit more sadistic than the general public is ready to accept.

I thought about the microwaves and came to the conclusion that if for whatever reason, you slip and fall and stay in the beam a little longer, you are as good as microwaved. Cooked. Or whatever -- heart attack, busted blood vessels etc.

It's a bit iffy. All I can say that it's difficult to get public support for the deployment of this weapon and the statement from the Secretaty reflects this uneasy fact.

I sort of don't like the idea.
