Weird sighting.

Okay I hope someone can answer this for me. I live in Aurora Colorado, about 5 mile south east of Denver. To the east of me you can see planes flying in to DIA, which is north east of where I live. Maby this story belongs in the aircraft technology forum, but this was weird, I did not experience this alone.
Anyways, I was driving home with my brother, who was driving at the time. We were going south on Gunclub road. When going south on this road, you will always see planes comming in from the south heading to DIA. We were doing our usual bantering when we noticed a plane off in the distance. It wasn't moveing but was just sitting there, in mid air? Okay now logc tells me then if you are approaching something that is comeing towards you, it'll move faster and get larger the closer you get, but something was wrong with this plane. It was sitting there in mid air, not moveing. My brother was shocked by this and pulled over so we could get a look. When we pulled over, I swear to any god out there, I got out and stood up to look at this plane, IT WAS NOT MOVING! It was still, in mid air, a plane that looked like a passenger jet, I saw the windows and all, was just sitting there in mid air not moving. It sat there for about 30 seconds before it started moving like any normal plane would, towards DIA. My brother and I were shocked, we'd never seen anything like this before!
So I get home, and I ask my stepdad about it as he use to be in the military. Navy for the most part but I remember him telling me about how he helped design some missle launcher, among other things that our military uses today. He did alot of stuff in the military, and had a huge intrest in planes. I only thought small fighters like the harrier could hover like the plane I saw. So after mentioning that he got a smile on his face, then I told him what I saw and his smile only grew. He told me it was the military playing games.
So my first real question to you great people of ATS, the site I've been watching and visiting every day for a long time, can a jet passenger plane do what I've described above? Was the plane struggling against the wind, causeing it to hang in mid air? I don't know much about planes but I think that would stall it if the plane could not hover. The plane sat there for about 45 seconds total, did NOT move. WTF? This has been ripping my mind apart for over a week now. I've had 2 instances of seeing weird lights in that area east of me, but this was a plane, sitting in mid air? WTF?

I can only assume it was in a high wind area and was traveling against the wind at the same speed the wind was moving, so it looked like it was not moving. I know the shock you felt at seeing an aircraft standing still. My son who was five at the time asked me what that thing in the sky was. I looked up and there was a silver sphere just sitting in the sky not moving. I had never seen anything standing still like that in the sky before and I was stunned. I kept wondering when it would wobble or move with the wind or something like a chopper or balloon does, but it stood dead still. I looked at it for an hour till my neck got sore and after that I went to look at it every half an hour or so and it was still in the same spot. At night it vanished or wasn't visible but in the morning it was there again. For three days I observed it. Years later it appeared again, and then again after a few more years, every time in the same place.

So I know how disturbing it is to see something standing still in mid air defying physics. It is a shock to our idea of what reality is.

Hey Slash, read something similar between Florida and Puerto Rico. But from the Pilot. The plane lost fifteen minutes and the Pilot indicated they came to a point when the the two of them (Pilot/Co-Pilot) felt they were not moving.
