On August 29, 2006, in Salt Lake City, Secretary of Defense, Donald Henry Rumsfeld, claimed in his address to the 88th Annual American Legion National Convention that the "War on Terror" is just like World War Two. Here are some historical differences to consider between the two:

Im sure in his demented little fairy tale world, it is. Especially the last part where we dropped THE BOMB. Im sure Rummy is peeing his pants in anticipation for the day he can let loose his nukie nukes.

Rumfeld and Cheney are working together in their planning of how Iran will be divided to make the best of their oil reserves.

All the secret meetings they have seems to be all about discussing energy needs.

Now he got another new word to be use by the GOP and those that are critics of Bush administration.

The truth usually seems to be the exact opposite of what they say. Its uncanny. I can't believe their mentality is so simple. So, now those kabillions of wild-eyed terrorists creeping up on us all are FASCISTS!

Have these clowns ever studied WW2, Hitler and Mussolini? Safe bet. They're operating straight out of the classic Fascist playbook. That makes them all the worse. They know what evil they perpetrate. They don't care.

Why do Bush supporters chuck a wobbly when Iraq is compared to Vietnam and yet they dont say anything when Iraq and the War on Terror is compared to WW2 ?
If anyone compares WW2 in any way to the War on Terror it shows how little the know about either conflict.

Um, because they have their fingers in their ears and they're humming REAL loud! Don't forget that Vietnam is a dirty word in the States, as it implies other words like 'quagmire', 'high body count', 'bad decisions' and ' sheer demented idiocy'.
I hate it when people like Bush compare themselves to Winston Churchill. The fact is that Winnie had more intelligence, patriotism and libertarianism in the first joint of his little finger than the entire upper echelons of the White House have in their entire bodies.

This cast of current affairs in another light that is accepted is nothing more than an act for political gain. It doesn't matter if voters decide for or against, as long as interest is created.
I agree with Mr. Bush that the war in Iraq is terror related, since many have lent support. Is it likened to WWII? No. WWII was a global event based on catastrophy caused by economic, political upheaval. This War on Terror is an Us/Them, and I don't think these politicians wanting to spew forth to an ear should try and drum about saying it could develop into a large scale event. Or else, it just may.
