Well, if it's an Editorial Director, then I prefer:

FED = Forum Editorial Director.

I suggest Forum Lead Editorial Manager = FLEM.

It does sound like a brilliant idea to keep forums on track on ATS!

FEDs... ehehehe... nice...

William,it is a good idea, me thinks.
Should improve the quality of discussions.

I think that those who post a lot of quality posts, both on daily basis and in particular forums, should get a job. Though I would suggest that we do not nominate Mods for this, they already preform a very important duty, and there are a lot of regulars with briliant expertise but no title. Also we dont want to copy the goverment here, or Corporate America, all power in the hans of few lol, we want power to the common man

what does cosmic mean ?

Here at ATS, it's a mod-only forum, where they basically discuss who to ban and why, board changes, etc. and routinely web conference with the mothership....

IN UFO folklore, much like the site's namesake, it is a security classification said to be held by those in government who know of the alien presence, etc. (kind of an international Majestic 12)....

FEDs, I like it, hehe....wish I had time for it...

Though FLEM would fit with the TWATS, hehe....

SOunds like a great Idea. I only wish I had a broader range of expertise. I would only be able to do the spirituality or para-abilities ones most likely. Seeing as I study a lot of that. But, I also have other hot points. But, I think it'll work great whoever gets in any forum.

Surely this is a satire right. Your going to have someone on here, an expert tell me what to think?

And everyone here is like oh this is a great idea?

Surely you jest. If its scientific stuff yeah. We could use a college professor to talk about lasers.

But lets see. Some one to DIRECT our thoughts on matters such as government agencies and facilities. I been here 3 years and Im not a moderator.

This is a joke.

I like the "Fed" moniker as well... One caution would be to make certain propoganda was kept to a minimum.

I could see how that position could become a bully pulpit for a person's specific "mission" which would be counterproductive to the ATS mission.

I would think a person up for the job should be "warn free" for at least 6 months which counts me out completely...

PEACE...

If it's not too late to chime in, I like the idea!

would these people be considered "staff" or just another designation like writer/scholar/cant remember the other one (i just skimmed through this because i dont have time to read all 4 pages right now so if this has been answered sorry. In other words i guess the only real difference between the two would be cosmic access, would they get it?

i think its a top notch idea, i think the FED( better than fmse or whatever) should be charged with creating a topic of the day that will ensure a focused forum, but we have to be careful
a) not to scare people away, ie from covering old ground- we should all now that new people bring new perspcectives, that is why we are all here
b) not to impeach on freedoms of speech of anyone being contreverrsial, afterall this board has freedom at its core.
In the inital top post there should be a short summary of where the forum has been in the last few months. this will make life a lot easier for everyone and wont as some have suggested tell you what you think.
i think voting is a good idea but i worry that only popular people on the board will be picked and perhaps not the best people for the job. oh well same with all political processes, oh my god did i infer that ATs could be political. Shame on me.

blade runner brings up a good point to, is this just ATS or ATS and BTS

For now it's just ATS.

And another point I want to stress. The job of FSME's are not to guide or prod discussion in their particular direction. Think of them as librarians who are pretty good with one particular section of the library.

So that would be like a neutral exposure of information? Let the crowd see the info and let the discussion go where ever?

Its' a tall order to keep track of all topics within a forum. More like a full-time job in itself.

I think the person who is responsible for this will need a lot of spare time & no outside life.

Actually I'm not sure the tasks are all that onerous at all.

The initial logging and referencing would be no more than three hours in the most complex Forum. Unless you are the kind that gets all nostalgic when you are doing a spring clean and tidy-up.

Then I would estimate about five minutes per day, on top of posting in any topic of interest as always.

What I would like to see in the FSMEs/FEDs/FLEMS as well is knowledge of the subject matter that exists outside of the small but interesting segments represented at ATS.

William, a Librarian is poles apart from an Editorial Director! Come up with your effective job description and the primary tasks, and expectations, so people can get a real handle on what these volunteers will be doing for them.

It remains a great idea.

I would suggest a pinned topic or two ontop of every category, and the person involved would add links to the 'directory' of that topic?

Kind of like a moderated table of thread contents of relevent topics posted.

Yeah. A librarian I'm not. I can't be well versed in all the topics presented on a particular forum.

I'm assuming that with the position, you're required to be able to answer every question that comes at you from a poster in that forum. And that it is unacceptable to answer "I don't know" so you have to do your own quickie research on the topic to come up with a half decent answer.

I think I rather be a "cop". Just kidding.

I think they are more like a helpful element. Guiding people to information when needed, putting together a list of helpful thread links for the forum. Help new people find their way around. etc...
