At least 40 times now.....
Can't they find some more legitimate advertising?
They are lying to each and every one of us. You know you're not the millionth one, neither am I! Why does ATS let them advertise falsely here?

The fine print in the ad says "details apply". You know what that means. To get the prize that you won you have to sign up for who knows how many "programs" and each are going to cost you money....

Actually, it wouldn't even have bothered me so much if it wasn't acting like a strobe light with the blinking.....:bash:

Regarding the blinking, don't you think ATS should have a warning on its homepage about flashing images?

I don't know whether they could cause an epileptic episode but I'm sure the possibility exists.

It annoys me to no end, maybe an epileptic just gets annoyed a bit more?
That was a sad attempt at humor, I apologize.....

Do you know which one I can't STAND!!!

The mosquito one! I'm sitting here, headphones in, reading conspiracy theories about reptilians or greys or whatnot. I load a new page and then a loud high pitch buzzing just interrupts everything and suggests I zap the fly.

Thinking this might make it stop I do, and millions of popups suddenly attack.....................AND THE BUZZING NEVER STOPS!!!!

Anyone that tells you how to stop the mosquito from buzzing would be encouraging you to do something against the T&C of ATS.

I've been the 1,000,000 visitor for a whole year now I believe. It flashes bright so I make sure to scroll off of it because it reminds me of something I need to shield my eyes from like the sun in the morning.

I usually don't hear any pc sounds of any of the ads or web sites since I listen to my radio music and don't have any pc sound coming out of my speakers. Thanks to reading about the mosquito sound effects, I was surprised to hear that some ads have sound effects. Therefore, I turned on my pc speakers and searched for that one ad. I wanted to hear what the buzzing sounded like and turned on my speakers just to find out. Now, you guys are probably going to feel like doing this to me :bash: since I clicked on that ad a few times.

The most annoying ad I've seen is a cockroach crawling across the screen. That's just gross.

I would like it if someone had an uzi or powerful gun sound effects in an ad. I'd want to click on that one a few times.

Oh, I almost forgot, congratulations to the original 1,000,000th visitor. I must be experiencing an ad glitch since no one has claimed the prize yet.

I do agree that some of the ads can be extremely annoying, especially the ones with audio. But when you consider the alternative, is it really that bad?

Remove the ads and you insert a personal cost to all of us. Would you be willing to pay for ATS? Without the ads, we would not enjoy the ATS we have. So as frustrating & annoying as they appear to be, they are very important.

I have learned to ignore them when I can, while giving one a click from time to time.

They do. I know ........ personally. It's actually quite common. I have many friends (fellow patient niches) that also experience this scenario on a frequent basis. A few of those have had to give up on being part of the Internet - too risky, medically.

Albeit, the ones here at ATS have only invoked a trigger in my situation, and I am able to get away from it, I have hit pages that do cause convulsions.

It sucks, all I wanna do is be on the Internet and not have damaged brain cells triggered into this crap!

Chissler, I didn't mean to imply that I didn't think ATS should use ads, what I meant was I wish they would be a bit more picky about their advertisers. This particular ad is lying to all of us and I personally don't feel that is very moral.

Misfit, I know people that are triggered by flashing at a certain frequency, I really feel for ya, it's not pretty sometimes.

BG, I also did not mean to imply that you thought ATS should not use ads. (or something like that)

These threads are sprung from time to time, and alot of members jump out and scream abolish the ads! I was not under the assumption this is what you were referring too, but rather than allow this thread to turn into that, I wanted to voice my opinion.

Ads are important to ATS, some are extremely annoying while others fit well with the site.

The best part about ATS is that the administration wants to know what you think about its ads.

If you have not posted your concerns about specific ads in this thread, I would suggest you give it a go. You never know what might come of it.

I agree with their importance....don't think I don't know the importance of sponsors...my son has many sponsors for his racing. But the strobbing effect freaks my eyes out.... I rush to scroll down under it as fast as I can. Other than that... yeah I'd rather have the ad's than pay a monthly fee to use ATS

Only a few people other than myself have made a statement about the ads. The fact that both me, you, and others scroll off that blinking ad as fast as possible indicates to me that it's very effective in annoying people.

It's also a lie (we can't all be the 1,000,000th visitor) and seems to go against the site motto. Deny ignorance. There are effective ads that may get me to click on them out of interest and then others I think are a waste of time and deceptive.

I kept seeing this ad on almost every single screen today for a while. Quite annoying. So I posted a response on this thread linked above.

SkepticOverlord's Ad Hitlist

I'm not familiar with the process of copying screen shots to the posts here though.

The ad finally changed.

I wrote that message too soon.

The strange thing is when I try to save the image, instead of getting that image I get an image for the girl scouts.
