This is being reported in nearly every norwegian newspaper today. People from all over the northern half of norway have been reporting seeing a light in the sky between Finnsnes and Bodø around midnight monday (GMT+1).

"-It's hard to describe what it looked like, because it was so big. Suddenly the sky was filled with lots of yellow and red light that moved at great speed. It was huge! At first I thought it was a plain crashing, but quickly saw that it must have been something else. It appeared to move upwards, and suddenly it was completely gone." Storstad Ryan to Aftenposten.no

www.aftenposten.no...

"- We saw a big and very long light moving across the sky at high speed 30km south of Harstad. It was white, green and yellow, and the lights were as if from a falling star. It didn't look like a comet, and it was about four-five times larger than a plane, and traveling much faster." André Grønmo to Dagbladet.no

"- Those who have reported the event tell of a green ball of light with a tail moving at low altitudes. There's been talk of a height of 500m, and the object was perceived as very large." Operational Leader, Midtre Hålogaland Policeprecinct Oddgeir Slettli to Dagbladet.no

www.dagbladet.no...

"- This is most likely a stone entering the atmosphere. When they move through the atmosphere and hit the air they heat up and for a short moment they glow very brightly. I have spoken to some people who estimate the meteorite to be as bright as a fullmoon, maybe even brighter. And this is quite a large rock, anywehre from 2-3 to 10-odd kg" Astronomer Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard to Dagbladet.no

Some of you might remember Ødegaard from the last norwegian meteorite thread. There's been atleast half a dozen meteorite impacts covered in norwegian newspapers this summer. Never seen this level of activity before.

The links are all norwegian papers, but I'm sure someone can translate it. I'm at work and need to RUN now to catch the bus. Looking forward to hearing your opinions on this.

I would love to see an event like this with my own naked eyes....it must be awesome to watch a low and fast meteor streaking across the skies...if that is what it was.

The fizzing and sparkling suggest that it was, but again it raises the question that if there have been so many in such a small tight footprint, where is the rock that is shedding all of these that are crashing into Norway?

Well have a look at this youtube video from australia - man this would of scared me for sure. Look how many times it sufferes major damage and keeps on plugging downwards.... Any larger and that would of been some impact - three sheddings (bright flashes as gas and small particles ignite) and still it rolls on to die at the fourth..

That is some monster!

Oh and before I forget heres the link.

So there are lights in the Norwegian area too...they are starting to come down....

I see multi-colored lights over my area at least 3 nights a week, including one extremely bright light which cant possibly be a planet or star.

I have a strange feeling something big is gonna happen soon.....

if not just lights, there has actually been ufo sightings here, too.
not that i remember where right now, but there is one area where scientists actually started researching and put up surveillance cameras and such.
it didn't interest me back then, so i don't remember what the outcome was, either..
maybe hellmutt has something to add, seeing that he also is norwegian? :p

the one article i read, about here in trondheim, said that the whole sighting lasted for like 4 seconds.. there's just not enough time to do so. :/
but then there's no actual proof that it was a UFO. probably a meteor of some sort, we've had some meteors over norway this summer.

What is the context of the picture in this link? I may be 1/4 norweigan but I certainly can't read it

The little I can actually read is Vancouver Island and october 1981...

Is it just a random UFO picture used to illustrate what they're talking about or something?

the text just states that countless people observed what seems to be a ufo on the coast of Helgeland late monday night. and that the picture is, sure enough, an illustration. it says "this picture is from vancouver island, british colombia, 8th of october 1981." :p

and further down, it's a bit where a dude from the police is saying that it is "some kind of a flying object, we cannot explain what it is." roughly translated.

and then there's the part where they explain that some people doubt it is a comet, that it was 4 or 5 times larger than a plane, and that it travelled much faster - at about 500 metres up in the air. that's real low.
then the police dude goes on to tell that they have been in touch with several radar-thingie-thingies, and noone has picked it up on their radar, and so noone has any good explanation on what it could be.

when the police dude is asked if he thinks it could be "green men", he laughs and say that they are welcome to visit.
