Dstarsfan,
I hope you don't have to die like the people that lost their lives today but even if you did, just because I have no respect for you alive, I would still have empathy for your passing. It's called human compassion, something you don't have obviously.
My thoughts go out to the souls of the people & to their families.

I sense a bit of disappointment have a bit of respect for the people that have just died.

they wouldnt care if i died so why should i care if they do?

That was very disrespectful to the dead and their families, dstarsfan879905.

That's on the same level if one of your family members was killed in a terrorist attack and everyone played up apathy towards it because they didn't know the family member in question. It's only proper to mourn the deaths of innocent people.

If something happens to my family ill deal with it on my own and with my family..i dont, will not, and would not seek sympathy and mourning from people i dont even know. they can feel however they want about my family as i will feel how i want to about their family. they wouldnt care if there was a loss to my family as i wouldnt care when there's a loss to there's. thats it. deal with my view of this topic. get over it.

I agree with you

Although...

He is most likely doing this for attention, just let him make the irrelevant, sadistic, childish, and pointless posts that he wants. But the more attention you give him (even negative) he will still have reasons to stay on this thread.

MSNBC has picked up this story on it's main page- www.msnbc.msn.com...

KIEV, Ukraine - A Russian passenger jet carrying at least 170 people — including 45 children — crashed Tuesday in eastern Ukraine after sending a distress signal, killing all aboard, authorities said.

They're saying it was lightning.

other reports - russian officials say it was turbulance and the ukraine emergency services minister said a fire had broken out on board and the crew had decided to make an emergency landing. he also said the landing gear failed to deploy

one witness described it as falling from the sky like a petal, floating around and after circling around, it dropped and exploded when it hit the ground.

Bet it didn't feel like a petal to those inside the craft.

45 children? God - those poor babies

what exactly is the safety record of the Tu-154 ? I thought that the majority of these aircraft had been replaced by western models such as the 737 etc.It appears the majority of Russian aircrashes involves these older Russian made airliners..but i will stand corrected

Someone posted a link up at the top regarding these Tu-154 models. They are the core of the Russian airline fleet, and they have rather normal accident statistics (given their age). Something like 28/1000. Many of the recent Russian plane accidents have occured not because of mechanical failure but rather human error or bad weather, in other words freak accidents for the most part.

There is now a criminal investigation opened into this accident. However, initial assessment excludes terrorism.

May those perished rest in peace.

From the BBC link , it seems that most of the accidents have been `freak` in nature - ATC errors (1 accident) , shot down in a military exercise gone wrong (1 accident) 5 shot down by terrorist attacks , 1 ran out of fuel after it was short fueled

those arn`t technical problems but freak issue`s - so all in a good track recor for the type!

I think it was lightning strike , cauisng an engine fire which brought the aircraft down - mayb there souls rest in peace.

That would be considered terrorism! Just think of all the terrified people that are to use either of the airports or are supposed to board a plane of the same model!

To Heaven, may the victims go.

Just as I got off the bus this morning I heard "disappeared off radar screens".

Could you imagine how much that killed me as I waited all day in an information vacuum?!

But now that sad truth becomes apparent. It saddens me a lot to think of all those that either lost their lives or had them wrecked while I blissfully slept.

And I must say that I am quite glad to see that member 'dstarsfan879905' has been banned.

The plane changed course to avoid the storm but got caught up in it instead. The plane sent the first mayday signal two minutes before they crashed.

RIA Novosti: Ukraine controllers allowed crashed Russian jet to change route

23/ 08/ 2006

Ukrainian ground controllers allowed the captain to fly 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of the original route because of poor weather, Mykola Rudkovskiy, head of a Ukrainian government commission investigating the crash, told local Channel Five Wednesday.

"When the plane entered the zone of Ukrainian flight controllers, the crew requested permission to fly 20 kilometers east of the route in view of deteriorating weather," he said. "The controllers agreed."

Rudkovskiy said a cyclone had affected the plane, whose flight plan took it across Ukraine even though it was flying between two Russian cities, but said it was too early to speak of any exact causes of the crash. Preliminary reports that emerged Tuesday evening suggested the three-engine Tu-154, the mainstay of the Russian aircraft fleet, had been hit by lightning.

The St. Petersburg-based airline said the crew had sent four mayday signals before contact was lost, three at 38,600 feet (11,700 meters) and one two minutes later at 10,000 ft (3,000 meters)

It is my understanding that the many of the aircraft flown by Russian airlines are poorly maintained. Several Russian carriers have been denied access to Western airports because of the aircraft not being up to minimum standards. Think about it. A fire, no landing gear and a high speed belly landing all in the same incident. To me that says poor maintance and poor flight crew training. There should be an investigation and if I'm right I'd favor prison time for the employees and the death sentance for the management involved, right up to the owner.
