I've been thinking about this a fair amount (while on ATS atleast) lately.

As we know it's a biolgical fact of nature that all things die eventually.
Now since the owners and staff of ATS will inevitably die, some sooner
than others because of age, what will happen to ATS when all the three
amigos and higer up support staff die of whatever cause (hopefully of old
age if they do).

Is there a system set up to keep ATS going into the next century, or is this something that has'nt been thought about?

I know it's macabre to think about, but you have to if you want the site to
continue on into the future.

So that's about it.
I could'nt figure out where exactly to put this, so I figured here was the
best place.

Agent Smith: Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization.

I would worry more about the changes in technology more than anything.... and how something as large as ATS works with it.

I sometimes wonder on how the Internet will evolve...

I would imagine it will all be for the better though.

Well as to ATS, if the three amigos perish from the earth, Can I have it?
I need a decent printer too.
What are you going to do with your cars, computers? You guys Homeowners?
I've always liked you guys, thought of you like family I have... even SO has been a father figure for me despite our disagreements. Sniffle... Whimper...

Your concerns are unfounded. Two of the owners of ATS are actually hyper-advanced AI housed in specially designed bio-mechanical constructs. When their 'bodies' reach a predetermined use-by date, the AI is simply transferred over to a new construct and upgraded, with a new program name to reflect that. For example, you'll notice that SO used to be 'William'. Currently he is SkepticOverlord v1.4, and is scheduled for host transfer and reprogramming to SkepticOverlord v2.0 in 2012, although not necessarily under that moniker.

SimonGray, however, is different. He is in fact a sentient program which resides in and is able to travel freely across the Internet; something we mods affectionately call "free-range AI". That's why you don't see him post much, as he's usually spending his time trying to find a back door into the NWO computer mainframe (referred to as Babel by those in the know and housed under the EU parliament building).

So your fears are unjustified. The owners of ATS are, in effect, immortal.

Happy posting.

The future of ATS will be dependent on the quality of its moderators.

If the mods expect people to follow the rules and at the same time break those rules (insulting members for example.. or just generally being asinine as SOME of them can almost always be counted on to do) ... then really ATS is just the police state itself writ small.

Don't tell me you haven't noticed or haven't had to deal with things like this. For the most part most people just want to have discussions and even heated debates because that is what gets them off... but never underestimate the ability of a mod to go and put a damper on the fun over general misunderstanding of the situation or a lack of care to their duties.

Why is there no "rule book" for the mods themselves? Should the mods not have to follow some sort of code? Should they not be held responsible as much for the success of ATS as the members and owners? Or are they just usefull idiots and the owners feel that they'll make their cash off ATS regaurdless of how the mods do their job?

ATS could be a LOT more then it is already.. in fact I see its development being stunted. If this is the fault of the mods for wasting time on petty rule nit picking or because the owners haven't seen the true potential of this site or certain techologies... I have no idea really. I could speculate.. but what would be the point. I would probablly just be placed under some type of ban for insulting someone or offending someone (no matter WHAT you say someone will be offened - god help your account if its a mod) .. but I think the owners would want ATS to be as much as it could be ... so I'd say its stagnent growth must have to do with the middle management and its inability to either do the job or WANT to really make something of this site... I mean lets face it... they don't get paid and there isn't really much in it for them for doing what they are doing. Is there any wonder why they would slack off on their duties or make mistakes which bring down ATSs status in general?

If you don't agree with me then let me ask you one question.

Where is the Bittorrent server?

Where is the user video?

Wouldn't it be amazing if ATS members could make small documentaries about life in their neck of the woods and share it with us and THEN we'd have some NEW material exclusive to ATS not to mention just how generally cool that would be?

Yet, ATS is falling behind even in these simple technological advancements that other sites have implememented without difficulty.

I'm SURE its not the fault of the owners that ATS is not "on the ball" when it comes to what could be done here. No, it falls on the middle management spending too much time not doing anything to actually make ATS more then what it is.

And MORE USERS... and another branch of ATS... below, above, politics.. WHATEVER is... NOT expansion of the board.. its just spreading resources thin and making for far too much reading on the same subjects across three or four boards instead of just the main one... ITS ALL POLITICS.. and NONE OF IT is actually TOP SECRET.. so why the branches? Whats the point? And more users? Great. But not if you are not going to give them something new to keep them here... and they won't stay if they have to deal with mods that don't want to keep up their end of the work load... so anyways...

.. just wanted to point a few things out. I could go on. But that is someone elses job. And its not being done.. that doesn't mean I'm going to do it for them.. nor should you.

ATS is great.. but stagnent at this point.

(just my two cents... eh Wyrd)

We're all going to die on Tuesday, August 22nd 2006, so the expected lifespans of the Three Amigos seems to me to be a moot point.

They have to follow the T&C just like we do.
In fact they can get demoted and even bannedfor breaking the rules.
Which has happened.

I have not seen any such behaviour, nor have I ever experienced it.
There's a place for more heated debates, in fact there is more than one, if you desire to have one, than post a thread there.
Insulting others and being a general donkey is not fun.

As I said before, they are required to follow the same rules as us.
ATS is not a money making venture, the money it gets are used to mainbtain and slowly add to the site.

so I'd say its stagnent growth must have to do with the middle management and its inability to either do the job or WANT to really make something of this site... I mean lets face it... they don't get paid and there isn't really much in it for them for doing what they are doing. There is a reason the mods are chosen to be mods, it's exactly because they're willing to do there job regardless of being reimbersed for it.
The mods and staff do their job as good as they can considering they have to patrol a huge amount of posts/threads.

Where is the Bittorrent server?

I don't know, since I have no idea what that is.

Where is the user video?
Wouldn't it be amazing if ATS members could make small documentaries about life in their neck of the woods and share it with us and THEN we'd have some NEW material exclusive to ATS not to mention just how generally cool that would be?

If there was a wanting for it, I'm sure something would be implimented, but seeing how I don't think the majority of people would use it, there's no point.
ATS is a conspiracy site, not a social meeting hall, though it does functionas that on a de jure basis.

And MORE USERS... and another branch of ATS... below, above, politics.. WHATEVER is... NOT expansion of the board.. its just spreading resources thin and making for far too much reading on the same subjects across three or four boards instead of just the main one... Of course it's expansion of the board.
They are very good expansions to, it makes thngs more organised.
It is not all politics, aliens, science, space, religions, supernatural things, those are not political.
The new users bring new things with them to the site.
The mods and staff work very hard.

Not to mention an ATS sponsored hotel just like with the Giorgio Armani Hotel as part of the Emirate’s aggresive expansion. Muhahahaha!

I think the fact that none of the Three Amigos have chosen to comment on this thread is an indication they are already dead!

I guess once the bills go delinquent, the site probably has 90 days left.

Naw, no need to worry about it.

It's true that account will not be responding, but for other reasons unrelated to that post.

I always want to say something cute like "Jedi business, go back to your drinks" in cases like these, but that's far too rude a way to address fellow members.

So I guess hakuna matata (no worries) will have to do.

Ok, good, just wanted to make sure.

*Thinks* Now why can't everyone in the world be that clear and precise.
