First off: Enough with the personal attacks. Disagree that anything will happen on the 22nd? Fine. And I hope to God you're all correct. But attacks on character and intellect against ATS posters with differing opinions is pretty base.

Okay, I'm done with that -- and I'm sure I've opened myself up for attack.

That being said, I have noticed some financial harbingers.

This doesn't mean there's anything huge on the way, just an interesting bellweather of the state of the world.

Private capital has been flooding into the U.S. market this summer, in fact, just on the heels of the Israel/Lebanon war. The U.S. Treasury dept. is reporting that more than $84 billion in foreign capital purchased U.S. treasuries and securities in June (remember, their reports are behind). And it's projected to rise even more in July.

What's more interesting is that a bulk of the investment is coming from private investors, indicating that the Wall Street types in other countries are fleeing to the economic safety of the U.S. dollar.

Now, I know many of you scoff at that idea. But it doesn't change the fact that -- even with the U.S. deficit -- the U.S. dollar and dollar-backed investments are always perceived as a safe haven due to the U.S. economy's dependability, transparancy and relative stability. Anytime world turmoil is rife, investors overseas turn to the U.S.

Many economists make correlations between rising foreign investment in the U.S. and geopolitical troubles -- especially when investment spikes PROCEED such events. So, the spike occurred in June. A month later, Israel spirals into a war.

That being said, the top 3 foreign investing nations remained consistent: Japan, the U.K. -- which accounted for the biggest chunk of the spike -- and the OPEC nations.

Kind'a like when Hezzbollah starts a fight with Isreal. Isreal does what they always do, win and take prisoners. A week later a huge terrorist attack is dissolved in England. Coinsidence?

No, maybe its because Isreal is putting preasure on them and thats making the smaller cells lash out not being careful enough.

I think I seen it mentioned before, but I guess it's entirely possible that Iran doesn't plan on making first strike, however they are perhaps trying to draw the US or Israel into a preemptive strike or something like they did in Afghanistan, thus making the US again look like the bad guys, and the reason they are waiting for today and the military presence around iran to increase before telling us to go to hell with our nuclear talks, they're going to make the bombs anyway... Wouldn't be the first country we occupied because of WMD's... Hope that makes sense, I haven't slept in a while

In any event, I hope that we're all wrong, and nothing at all happens and everyone can live happily ever after.... Then again, that is not human nature

If the human race must learn a really big lesson, that foolishness will mean destruction for everyone, then i doubt its right for anything or anyone to interfere with fate.

Are you sure about that?

It's only 01:30am August 22nd here in Australia and im pretty sure we're atleast 7hrs ahead of the Middle East.

Just checked, Tehran is GMT+3.30 which would make it about 8pm August 21st in Tehran now. Unless they dont use daylight savings.

Hows about this for a development?

yahoo news

VIENNA, Austria - Iran has turned away U.N. inspectors wanting to examine its underground nuclear site in an apparent violation of the Nonproliferation Treaty, diplomats and U.N. officials said Monday. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidentiality of the information, told The Associated Press that Iran's unprecedented refusal to allow access to the facility at Natanz could seriously hamper international efforts to ensure that Tehran is not trying to make nuclear weapons.

The story is about an hour old. This is the first time Iran has refused to allow UN inspectors at it's site. Interesting, and im sure for the people who only get their news from FOX they'd of thought this was a regular occurence. Well it's not and this is not good.

Here's another take on Aug. 22.

In short, Iran has enjoyed the worldwide fear reaction its statements have brought. In fact, they especially enjoy the fruits of those murky statements on oil prices.

Specifically interesting is this quote in the article: "With 80% of Iran’s revenues generated from oil and natural gas export, fiery rhetoric translates into windfalls."

Read it here:

inbrief.threatswatch.org...

Seems the debate goes on. I'm still leaning toward Ahmadinejad doing something today -- maybe not anything major like a nuke attack, but certainly something to raise the eyebrows of his worldwide stage and to at least back up what he has threatened.

Heh, talking about drawing attention to yourself. Afterall, if your nuclear program is designed for civilian/peacefull purposes, why stop the inspectors? Now i must add that something like that can be done because of bad relations, though. But still, its suspicious.

Not concerned? How about this then?

About 10 minutes old:

CNN.com

"Iran has just announced the successful testing of an underground nuclear explosion at its Natanz nuclear facility. This followed reports immediately of tremors felt in Iraq registering 4.5 on the Richter Scale.

And following the apparent test Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued an ultimatum to President Bush: Withdraw support of Israel or "face the nuclear annihilation of three of your U.S. cities."

Ahmadinejad, in a fiery speech before his congress, did not specify which cities he was threatening..."

if you truly had been following this thread for 11 pages then you would undoubtedly have read several times the request that people like you stop making comments like this in a thread which had a serious purpose and intent. i already stated there were many other threads which you could make your useless comments in regarding aug 22nd and asked for serious participation only of events which MAY indicate foreknowledge of an event.

there is an immense difference between foresight and hindsight. would you have scoffed at people (like, say alex jones) who predicted 911 would happen simply because you didnt think it would? its very easy to look back on an event and say 'i told you so' but unless you and the other people making really useful comments like 'nothings going to happen' and 'your all stupid' comments are actually psychic then you cannot possibly claim to know such a thing.

so, like i said before, some of you members are acting like children and cannot comply with a simple request to stop making pathetic ner ner ner comments and stay out of a thread which has been plainly lain out before you as a place to post 'evidence' of any foreknowledge. if you really cannot manage to do such a simple task as that, then PLEASE by all means create yourself an 'anti-aug 22 wierd stuff' thread and post you comments in there, or be my guest and show your real immaturity and selfishness by replying back in this one.

id also like to thank again the few people (especially cosmo dag) who have participated in or taken an interest in what this thread is trying to achieve in a positive way.

so, IF you can contribute something important to this thread then by all means do so. now can we get back on track again please?

sigh

Well said, Justyc.

It's funny how when someone does post something intelligent, that post gets virtually ignored in favor of empty rhetoric and personal attacks.

Anyone care to offer evidence, either for or against, about Iran's intent for today?
