In your opinion, where do you think we will be, technologically, in 20-50 years?

Well, we wont be using anything needing petroleum, thats for damn sure.

If civilization does not collapse, and major ecological disasters do not toally reshape the planet, Id say look towards biological interfacing with computers, cybernetics a common thing. Genetic engineering will be able to create totally perfect designer babies, like in Gattica. Colonies will probably be in the process of being built on the moon and Mars. And hopefully, new technology will allow new clean powered cars.

Oh, and look forward to draconian surveilance and control technology.

I think within the next 50 years we will have a permanant presence on the moon for scientific research and possibly a mining operation in its infant stage. Hopefully we will have made our way to Mars by then.

Yes we will, but hopefully far less than today. Many of the world's products are made from, or use, petroleum. It is relatively cheap and very effective. It will be around for a long time, but we should definitely stop using it in vehicles, and perhaps altogether as a combustion agent.

That's my opinion, of course.

I hope that in 20-50 year, Nanotech will finally become useful and widespread. We'll have less expensive recycling techniques so that people actually WANT to recycle (hopefully). And I hope we are building a colony on the moon... and by "we" I mean anyone who is willing, no matter what country or organization.

In reality, that's probably more like 100-150 years away, because human politics run VERY, VERY SLOW. I can dream, though.

If you look at all the advancements we made in the past 20-50 yrs. ,I'd say we are advancing at an incredible rate.Barring a nuclear war or any other huge disaster,I'd say domed cities, cars that drive themselves(already a reality)and home schooled children would be the norm.voice activated homes(lights, appliances, etc.) would be a possibility too! Also spacestations on the moon would be cool.
