Jack,
If I may.
You change the Background value to "Layer" (RT Click)
Then adjust the opaque control to "Transparent", it as a layer.
Add the image as a Layer.
That should show the initial layer, (Background) as transparent.
There are probably easier ways to do it, but that is what I use.

Oh Yeah, I forgot to mention, I can only get it to work when I change it to a "GIF" file.
