I was home-schooled through elementary school, so there are some things I never was taught. So what does that have to do with this website? I don't like the fact that everything must be written properly here. I've got something to say, but I can't say it because I never attended public school???

I don't see your point i'm afraid.
You must have a basic knowledge of literacy, grammar and spelling so why can't you post?

Mmmh....did this pertain to a topic where you were berated about your writing abilities?

because most members will not berate you for your grammar unless your pretty much insulting them personally.

Most people don't make fun of people with poor english, after all many people here are from different countries with english being a second or third language.

I doubt many people here have posted all their posts in perfect English, no problem.

hey

first welcome to ATs,

I think you may just be getting the wrong impression here,

all we ask it that you try your best to make the post readable,

i.e. check spelling maybe re read it just to fix anything that stands out,

It really is more about helping you get the best from your post and getting better responses

believe me im not that great when it comes to spelling and grammar, but just a spell check or using word helps fix things up a little,

and hey its a great place to improve your writing skills, think of it as another learning curve,

just give it a go, give ATs a whirl and im sure you will do great

Im here if you need any help along with any other staff member,

I'm sure there were lots of things you were taught that aren't taught in traditional
schooling.

You don't have to write properly here. (not to sound like im a veteran) Just be sure
your point is as clear as you can make it. That's all that counts.

When proper writing is mentioned, it is basically referring to not using chat like "shorthand".

Things like people intentionally using "teh" instead of "the".

Or using "u" instead of "you".

From your post, I see no problem with you being able to express yourself intelligently.

Have at it, and enjoy your time on ATS!

OHGosh, who would use 'teh' on purpose.
On long comments occasionaly my fingers work so fast letters jumble, but on what planet would 'teh' be intentional....well maybe a plaent that has 'teh' as an actual word.....awww you know what i mean

The same people who use "phrases" like "!!1!!1!!one!!one1!11!!!!" and "pwned".

Ahh the internet, where typos become pop culture fads.

P.S. Proper writing also refers to not using things like "1337 sp34k" where numbers are used for letters.

I hear and I feel your pain . . .

I am a born American citizen but my first language is Spanish. . .

I have been there and I have been laughed, about, make fun off and more. . .

But guess what . . .

I find it amusing, funny even and sometimes I just laugh my hart out.

Sometimes when people can not get their points through you or they disagree with you to the point of anger they will used anything to get back at you.

But this is a great place and a great site with many good people and an excellent staff.

If you feel that you have been abuse by any member verbally make a complain and it will be review and taking care.

Beside that just laugh when people try to use the language and grammar lame excuse to get back at you.

If I undertand what you write I have not problem with the spelling.

My only problems with "proper" writing are shorthand, as mentioned earlier, and people that write a giant long post as either one giant paragraph, or with big long run on sentences that make it really hard to read. Other than that I have no trouble with figuring out what people mean. I've had two marriages (one failed, one still going) to people from the Philippines, so I'm used to English not being their first language, and how they write.

Planet Earth. Home to about 6 billion plus homo sapiens sapiens.

Teh is a Malay word for tea. 25 million plus people know Malay in Malaysia. Teh is also used as the word for tea in many parts of Indonesia, most notably on the island of Sumatera, the sixth largest island in the world with over 40 million plus individuals.

There are more people speaking many other languages other than English.

I was a little drunk when I posted this topic. I probably blew the whole thing out of proportion. Thanks for the warm welcome. The spell check on Word was a great idea. I never would have been able to spell "proportion" without it.

Rumor has it that more than a few members post while intoxicated.

My advice is to not worry about it too much. Yes, posts on ATS must be in English and "leet" is a language in itself (and thus discouraged), but we have many members for whom English is a secondary language (including "leetspeakers"), and we try not to give people a hard time for that.

No matter how good your English is, if you can express opinions worth reading, you will earn respect in the ATS community.

Welcome aboard!
