It's called a tangent, or more precisely, a tangentially related topic. It all started here:

These kinds of detours of thought or subplots, if you will, are perfectly acceptable and, in fact, often necessary to fully cover any topic of discussion.

I really would like to encourage a relaxed format here on Social Issues. We can have structured, disciplined discussions in an atmosphere of creativity and synthesis. There are no rules against that in the real world, even though it is sometimes hard to find.

I was actually kinda wondering why you as the FSME were letting that persist in this thread...But aight...Flags it is...

So how bout telling that dude on the TV about to rule the planet that Mexico and PR can battle it out for the 51st star. But I have a hunch he'll bring his flag with em, too.

Me, I'm kinda getting partial to what the Constitution Party is saying on immigration.

I pretty much agree with that position on immigration, however, I'm not sure that I can support this position:

We favor a moratorium on immigration to the United States, except in extreme hardship cases or in other individual special circumstances, until the availability of all federal subsidies and assistance be discontinued, and proper security procedures have been instituted to protect against terrorist infiltration.

www.constitutionparty.com...

We will never reach such a goal of absolutely protecting against terrorist infiltration. We should however, do our best to attract immigrants who will contribute to the betterment of our nation, which is the tradition that made this country the magnet for humanity that it is.

Well, I really do support that position, myself. We've had our doors wide open for long enough. I think it's time to put the brakes on it for a while, regroup, build the fence and secure the border, and then deal with existing illegals and new legals coming into the country after that. I think we have every right to at this point. Hell, we've been infiltrated...NO... More like invaded. When is enough enough? 25 million? 50 million? 500 million? I mean come on, there has to be a point, and soon IMO, that enough IS enough. We can't cater to every last person on the planet wanting in.

At this particular point in the country's history, given the problems already created by illegals, take a break. Chill out. Hey WORLD! pssst...Can yas cool it on the entry requests for a few years while we get things together? Thanks!

Well, what I am saying is that there is no reason for a moritorium, except on the condition of hardship. I think we can accomplish what we need to accomplish, while at the same time allowing highly skilled and educated immigrants to come here as they always have, either on work visas or to seek citizenship. These are the kinds of folks we need. The ones who will work hard, pay taxes, start businesses and contribute to the strength of the nation.

Like I said earlier, if we could work out a deal with some country to trade those kinds of folks for the lazy, good-for-nothing dopeheads and street criminals, I'd go for that in a heartbeat.

And we've got plenty of them right here already, Grady, who are going to have to contend with a hell of a lot of illegal labor working their way up the food chain. That summer job that Tommy was going to take at 14.00 per hour? Well, now he can only get 8 to 10.00 because of illegal immigrant competition. Means daddy's got to help him more...Oh, but what's this? Daddy lost his job too because his company could make more hiring illegals so, Good Luck there Tommy boy, you're gonna need it.

I just read a story on an illegal immigrant from Mexico who moved from California to Kentucky because California is now too much like Mexico.

I guess it won't be too long before many other states become the same way.

LA Times

Today, the Magdalenos in Lexington earn more than they did in Los Angeles, in a city where the cost of living is lower. Kentucky is now their promised land, and they talk about California the way they used to talk about Mexico.

"What we weren't able to do in many years in California," Alejandra said, "we've done quickly here.

"We're in a state where there's nothing but Americans. The police control the streets. It's clean, no gangs. California now resembles Mexico — everyone thinks like in Mexico. California's broken."

On ATS courteous behavior is expected and required by the T&C, and members incapable of it tend to be banned sooner or later.

Obviously since both you and I are still here, the standards aren't impossibly high.

But we do have standards, and we do enforce them.

even though this comment was not very courteous, it still has a grain of truth (well, a grain that i feel) and i was going to mention it...

a true american should accept all immigrants, right???

again, this is not the topic at hand so i will just say:

one little immigrant saying that his / her people will run america in a certain amount of years is no threat

it was, at best, a laughable comment...

i love ATS drama

Do you make it a regular habit of putting your foot in your mouth, tsa?

No a true american should NOT accept ALL immigrants. A true american is bound by the laws of this land, federal and state. And so a true american, therefore (just to follow you down your careless and assuming road for a regretful minute), a true american, therefore, should only allow those immigrants that come through the legal system established and equipped to do so. Illegal immigrants thrust upon the system unintended and additional problems on too many fronts. And frankly, we have bigger problems of our own and globally to deal with, the attention of which is diverted due to this problem. Is why I am saying, why can't we just take a break from immigration for a while.

And while you were seeing all, you just happened to miss that this is just a screenname, like yours. I got it off my guitar the day I registered. Has nothing to do with who I am, but I do like some of the things it respresents. The point is, tsa, lets talk message, not messenger.

i actually heard about this (thanks to ATS)

it's hard for me to imagine this though...

i mean, the only world power being over-run by illegals???

and, look, i am not even a "fan" of america and i am saying all of this

no

i am just trying to converse via ATS

and, of course, i meant that a true american should accept all immigrants after that test they have to take and the laws are applied and etc...

i should have said it clearer...

i wonder if they had an "entrance test" into american in the 1900's

time to google

Thanks for those links, Grady. Refreshed me on the subject- an ugly one.

And do we really need this additional threat to innocents on the roads of America?

9 Illegal Immigrants Die in Ariz. Crash Running from Border Patrol

YUMA, Ariz. Associated Press

Nine illegal immigrants were killed in a highway crash Monday while trying to elude Border Patrol agents, and at least 12 others were injured, officials said.

The large sport utility vehicle carrying up to 22 people swerved to avoid a spike strip put out by Border Patrol agents, Sheriff's Maj. Leon Wilmot said.

Four victims died at the scene and five others were pronounced dead at a hospital, he said.

Five of the injured were in critical condition, Wilmot said.

The more I start adding all this together, the more it upsets me... *sigh*

is there an online test that people can take to come here

(i was serious)...

maybe this is the price of being the best country???

that price, is that everybody wants to come here...

for some strange reason...

if mexican/colored people begin "running" the country then its safe to say that they earned it and deserve it and no citizen in this country has the right to stop them from reaping what they sow. as far as illegal immigrants goes, the amount of illegal immigrants that get through that border soley depends on what our politicians allow. they have the power to seriously do something about it but, they wont. i dont hear angry rednecks targeting them with guns.

Grady, I wonder if there could be links between the Chinese and Mecha? This is pretty wild, check this out:

Chinese Regime Eyes Texas Port Facilities

From the Article:

There have also been reports that Chinese military units have been operating with Mexican army troops, who assist the drug smugglers and have made incursions into the United States.

San Antonio will give China access to a highway corridor along I-35, linking San Antonio to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, which is just across the border from Laredo in west Texas.

Nuevo Laredo is a major staging ground for Mexican drug cartels, which have fostered an atmosphere of lawlessness in the city. Almost daily people, including police, are shot in the streets. In addition, frequent clashes occur between drug smugglers and U.S. Border Patrol and state and local police on the U.S. side of the border in Laredo.

You see where I'm going with this Grady?

I object to using the term “innocents.” Innocence or Guilt is not an issue here, IMO. And, are us not-so-innocent more deserving to die? Prematurely. I mean this seems like a O’Reilly type of approach to a real problem. Distracting.

Why do Americans and American Law Enforcement agencies seem so determined to stop a vehicle? Surely anyone with 20/20 could see the vehicle was overloaded. That same anyone knows or should know such vehicles are very dangerous to its occupants when traveling at high speed. Why do we have to chase every stop sign runner, every u-turning driver? America has some serious psychological issues. We need to look introspectively more. We lack basic civility. A lot of it. If not having something can be quantified.

Maybe a good ATLA lawyer can get a $10 million per dead Mexican award and help slow down this out of control system we pretend to operate

RIP to the poor Mexicans. They came to work, they got killed instead.

What are you suggesting Don surely it is not for the police to look the other way when someone breaks the law is it?

:shk: :shk: :shk: :shk:

They were breaking our laws

  • Speeding
  • Evading the police
  • Failed to stop at Police check point
  • Illegal Entry into the US

The police/ICE were doing their job they were trained to do. No one forced the illegals and probably a coyote to break the law they did it on their own and they are the ones who were at fault not the police/ICE as you imply.

Further to what I was saying in my earlier post in this thread, here is what happens when you have an open door policy like Britain:

news.sky.com...

Save yourselves Americans from the same fate.

Not only is your country taken over and swamped by scrounging foreigners, but YOU get to pay for the privilege.

I have nothing whatsoever against immigration, I am an immigrant myself inthis country inwhich I live, but leaving your front door open attracts the worst type, people who will take advantage of your generosity.

P.S. I am still after a Green Card, can anyone help me???
