The New York just released a breaking story: members of the US Senate are having to share the Senator-only elevators with the common man/woman.

“I hesitate to say that it’s a big problem,” said Senator Frank R. Lautenberg of New Jersey, shaking his head gravely. “There is terrific crowding.”

Mr. Lautenberg, a Democrat who has served more than two decades in the Senate, said he had never seen the Capitol so packed with unelected interlopers.

The crowding extends to the elevators, one of the few sanctuaries available to beleaguered lawmakers as they try to navigate between the Senate chamber, various hearing rooms and offices in the Capitol.

“Sometimes you have to shove your way through, push people,” Mr. Lautenberg said.

Add the elevator problem to the litany of senatorial hardships, somewhere between flying coach and the high costs of barbering.

Amongst the rumors of complaints relayed to me personally about close public contact are concerns of cooties, disruptions of senatorial auras, and potentially contagious empty-wallet-syndrome.

Please join with me in showing your support for the Senate. I am starting a private elevator fund, in which members of the Senate are guaranteed privacy from their constituency. I will also need help petitioning NASA to make this elevatorial dream a reality. All support will be greatly appreciated!

Oh, those poor, poor ickle, bitty senators. Imagine...haveing to share elevator space with the great unwashed...ohh the horror, the inhumanity of it all. Well...to rectify this situation to the satisfaction of all, I think we ought to render all the senators so hassled unemployed and send them home to their private sanctuaries where they won't have to be bothered by the general public anymore.

Vote for the challengers...send poor Sen. Lautenburg home, so he isn't traumetized by having to share elevator space anymore.
