First Australian to die in the latest Middle-East Conflict

Assaf Namer, 26 was a Sydney boy all the way even lived near me (Bondi). Its REALLY sad to see Ozzie's dragged into this BS.

Assaf Namer was born in Israel but moved to the Sydney suburb of Bondi with his mother when he was 12. He returned to Israel two years ago to serve in the army and joined an elite unit.

I have to say as a Australian it is sad that someone from here has lost thier lives in this mess. My heart goes out to his family.

He's a soldier fighting in a war of aggression, I feel sorry for his family but this is not tragic. Would people care if an Aussie dual-national fought and died for Hezbollah?

Honestly i would feel the same if their was a dual-citizen who had fought and died for hezzbollah, but i do agree with your point. Most australians because of the media twist on situations would not feel the same.

My lack of sympathy for this Israeli soldier would be exactly the same for any Aussie dual national Hezbollah soldier who might die. Soldiers and those who willfully take part in fighting a war and die are not tragedies. Tragedies are those who die and have nothing to with fighting wars i.e. civilians.

If this Aussie was there on holiday it would be very, very sad. But he was there fighting for Israel's armed forces.

I do totaly agree that he was in the IDF and it he was their fighting a war. I do feel much more sympathy for the innocents who just want to live happy lives, but any lose of life on either side is sad.

Alot of my freinds are dual-nationals from Lebanon and Syria, So the answer is YES all death is tragic. Daily i get SMS messages from the front lines by mates in Lebanon, now with horrific tales of unknown weapons being used on innocent families .

We aren't being dragged into it.

He joined the IDF on a voluntary basis quite some time back.

He only had one month to go before he finished his stint apparently.
