On Channel5 (UK Television) earlier this evening was a programme named, Apollo 11: The Untold Story. It was about the Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins mission to the moon in 1969 and how they encountered several problems during their mission to and from the Moon. Also, they spent about 10 minutes discussing the UFO they saw on the way to the Moon. Buzz Aldrin himself said he saw a UFO.

Did anybody else see it?

Yeah I saw the show, but only the last 20 minutes. What did they say about the UFO? They only mentioned it at the last part of the show, which surprised me.

Did you see a show on Saturday on the history channel about USO's? It was really good.

They just described what happened, and described what they saw. Houston said something about their engine/fuel thing being 6,000 miles away from them, and they obviously thought, "Well we can't possibly see that because it's 6,000 miles from us, so it's a UFO", or something similar.

What is a USO?

So it's distributed by Discovery Channel International and the premiere doesn't air on the discovery channel???

Btw... I would like to see all the details of the show, like the pen that apparently saved their lives, and that they were 15 seconds away from running out of fuel!! But it's really the UFO sighting that is thrilling me... And that it's Buzz Aldrin himself saying that!!

The pen was used on a broken circuit breaker that arms the main engine. The pen was sufficiant to activate the switch. If that didn´t work, there were other things they could have done.

and that they were 15 seconds away from running out of fuel!!

They can only carry so much. 15 seconds is a decent ammount really. They had to do some extra maneuvering to avoid landing on some large rocks.

Thanks for the info jra, although I already know that they used the pen to repair the circuit breaker.

It was already on the science channel apparently. I don't have that.

Mission Control: 'Apollo 11, Houston. The S-IVB is about 6,000
nautical miles from you now, over.'

Aldrin: And a few moments later, why they came back and said
something like it was 6,000 miles away because of the maneuver,
so we really didn't think we were looking at something that far
away, so we decided that after a while of watching it, it was
time to go to sleep and not to talk about it anymore until we
came back and (went through) debriefing.

So if the rocket was 6000 miles away, one can only speculate as to what they saw while there on the moon.

they were instructed to abort at 60 seconds of fuel according to the show

I think what they meant was once they dropped below 60 seconds of fuel they would not be able to reorbit the LEM. Below that threashold you have to land the craft and relaunch the ascent module. I don't think there was a way to jetison the lander during a landing for a reorbit.

Interesting, cheers for that. Although the footage of "the" UFO is actually from a UFO filmed on a later mission.
