Australian television news is reporting that a boat chartered by the Australian government to evacuate Australians from Beirut, has been commandeered by a "greater power", allegedly the U.N.
The operation to evacuate these people has been underway for several days and has been well publicised in the local news. I have no links as yet, I saw it on the news on channel 7 and 10 in Australia.

Update: Channel 9 in Australia has said that the Turkish boat owners may have sold it to the highest bidder, however the U.N. angle was again stated, but not confirmed.

www.theage.com.au
HUNDREDS of Australians are set to be rescued from Lebanon today on a chartered ship to Turkey, joining a mass evacuation of foreigners fleeing the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

But many Australians were still trapped last night in some of the most dangerous parts of southern Lebanon and waiting desperately for help, adding to pressure on the Federal Government over its handling of the crisis.

As the Australian embassy in Beirut struggles to cope with the flood of calls for assistance, some people have given up and paid taxi drivers hundreds of dollars to take them on a risky overland escape to Syria.

What's going on? The U.N.? Don't they have access to boats? This leaves 400+ people stranded at a port in Beirut with bombs getting closer. Foreign Affairs are neither confirming or denying the claim. Dodgy.

This just in.

smh.com.au
A Turkish ferry due to arrive in Beirut today to evacuate 300 Australians is no longer available because it was double booked, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says.

Still dodgy.

Well it appears now, that the ship was double booked and didn't even turn up! I also heard someone on t.v. news blame Canada. Go figure.

About two hundred Australians managed to get on board a Greek ship before it had to leave. Some got on board British Chinooks. There has been rumours of fees of up to a thousand dollars being asked, but this was flatly denied by Australian DFAT reps. Wouldn't count out baksheesh, though. There was one disturbing story I heard on radio, about a mother with a young child who had a brain tumor. She had originally been given priority access, but wound up at the back of the line, as her name began with a W and in the reshuffle, the names got arranged alphabeticaly.

The title of this thread is misleading. I've read the report and it mentions nothing about the UN whatsoever, let alone saying it pinched your ship!
