i apologise if it comes across as hostile, it is not my intention. frustrated would be a better word.

i understand forums need to support themselves somehow, the site im admin of has sponsors too - although these are actual stores relating to the theme of the site and not what is generally considered junk ads (smileys, click here for a scare, "you won a free 50" tv - click here" etc)

it just gets extremely annoying when things are clicking popping flashing or making noises like HELOOOO the whole time im trying to read the site.
for me it detracts from the overal quality of the site and my visit here since its "in your face" advertising with no relevance to the site.

if it was for a book or movie relevant to ATS topics (like ATS featured video's) i would totally understand.

There is a banner ad that runs on the top of the page (Siesta Games, i believe) that freezes. My computer will tell me that its' scripting will cause flash to run slow and could freeze my computer.

then it backs it up by doing just that. It only happens with the "Siesta Games" add, i think....but not sure.

Perhaps ATS could make more money by burning both ends of the ad candle.

I myself would be willing to pay for an ATS ad disabler/blocker.

If not, please move those smileys to to bottom of the page, my mouse always trips over those ads.

My dogs are starting to hate those noisy ads too, they always stare at me when it happens and I have to apologize for waking them.

All seems quiet with the "refreshing ad"

If thats through the admin`s doing, much appreciated

PS I dont mind advertising (non invasive types)and if it creates revenue to site like this, cooool.

Though some of those ads if they were not to be removed would have an impact on the membership imo.

So I think it healthy to speak up about the offending ads for the good of the site.

I agree, and i don't really mind ads too much either. I usually have my speakers plugged into my mp3 player, or turned all the way down with headphones on (late at night).

just keep the porn away so i can come here while at work.

The smiley Banners must be the ones that pay some money huh?

Those Emocon banners are the worse!! I swear I really dislike those banners.. Everytime my mouse goes over it, I hear NO WAY!! OR SAY SOMETHING!! WHATTT!!>>

Oh man thats getting on my last nerve here.. When I play my music while I am reading the pages, Its so loud comming threw my speakers..

Nothing give me a head ache faster than those banners...

Or prehaps my whinning of these banners are a headache?

Either way, Id just like to remind you those Emo banners are still up and going strong.. Anyway to prehaps move them to a better location than at the top of the page??

If it pays the bills I do understand, and will just try to keep my mouse away from the top of the page...

I booked a trip to Las Vegas last night. Today most of the ads I see on ATS are for Las Vegas hotels and travel packages.
Coincidence maybe. But I doubt it.
Care to comment SO?

Other members have also complained here...

Just reposting this, because it's been 3 months and I'm still getting this annoying ad.

Don`t know if it`s been mentioned or not, but:

PUZZLE PIRATES.

I want to disembowel the creator of this ad with a spork.

This is the site it links to.
www.puzzlepirates.com...

Seems to load through one of many tribalfusion sites - I keep blocking images from them, keep getting rolled to a new site.

The Ad is a full-out Adobe flash file - and when it comes up it tends to load in all three spots - top, side and bottom.

I`m running a well-equipped iBook G4, and it`s actually enough of a hog of system resources to make the cooling fan kick in after 2-3 minutes.

I actually preferred it when I had flashing american flags covered with Japanese script encouraging me to apply for a green card.

I've negated puzzlpirates and smileycentral (again)... it takes 2-3 hours for these ads to be removed from rotation.

The main issue is that each time these companies start new online campaigns, we need to negate their banners all over again.

Wow, I didn't even know this was an issue. Granted, I use FireFox @ home and I had absolutely no idea there were ads on this site, let alone ads with sound! I use IE at work because they make me, but I have no speakers so I didn't even notice here either. Plus I think some of our IT guys have installed programs on the work computers to prevent ads from popping up.

FireFox really is the way to go...

Many, many thanks.

I`ve been noticing the puzzle pirates one a bit recently on a a couple of other websites. drives me out of my mind.

Howdy SO,

That retarded, offensive, talking top-of-the-page smilies banner ad is back, please kill it ASAP, (once again.)

Thanks!

Hello again, SO.

I appreciate your efforts to remove retarded and offensive ads from our midst.

I would like to call your attention to the fact that the top-banner talking smilies ad has, once again, returned to plague our site.

Thanks, again, for your help in keeping this stupid annoyance at bay.

I don't know how unpopular this will make me, but the "One Click Can Save This Child' Ad has to go.

I literally have an adverse physical reaction everytime I see it (poor thing).

It's almost enough to cause me to log out until someone emails me that it has been removed.

That's saying something....I have a tolerance for just about everything...

Here is a very annoying ad that almost always comes up:

Extremley annoying/Flashing red&grey ad...in Hungarian

Again, that is the link, so doubt you will see the ad itself, but Im sure S.O. or whoever will be able to figure out what the ad is.

Peace

See my above post, but google really should have some kind of rule...if nothing more than "no flashing ads at 5000 million frames per second which can give the end user a seizure."

The ad link I posted has been there for the longest time and plays almost 100% of the time.
The past few weeks other ads started coming in, but this is predominate.

I see it at the top...and in between post.

So when I post, Im on a 312k connection, it takes a minute to load, and I see the same ad flashing on the top and bottom screen.

Again, google doesnt have such a rule in place yet, but if you can somehow eliminate this it would be appreciated.

Peace

dAlen

I keep hearing, "Congratulations. You have been selected to receive 2 free ipod nanos." It's in the banner at the top of the page. Is there anything to be done?

Thank you!
