Sorry, but IMHO punk died a long time ago. I have no idea as to which classification the current music attempting to cash in on the image would be considered.

On the front page of their regular website click on "movies" and watch their video for "OpinioNation" Then you wont have to go to their myspace.

I haven't seen any argument in here....yet.

My boyfriend would love to debate you. He is mainly a metalhead but he loves punk as well and he is always complaining about the riff between members of the two genres. He thinks punks and metal heads should get along and fight the system together.

No new bands are punk, punk is a long time dead. The new wannabes wouldn't know the ethos if it came up and bit them on the arse.

Yes that would be nice , but you got people that judge other people on there music tastes , i dont care what music you like if your my freind but i definitly hang around with people that only like metal.... thinking about it i only hang around with people that like heavy/death/black..metal , no emos , dance heads etc...

Funny how music brings you togther and keeps you apart at the same time

PS: Who ever guesses who that is in my avatar gets 10,000 pionts, lol (hes in a metal band)

A good friend of mine is in 2awesome bands
The Neoprophets
and
Nefarious

Neo is totally crusty punk, while nefarious is completely metal. Any show that I go to has fans of both bands at them. It was only recently that I found out that punk and metal had a rivalry, and only through people on the internet.

Ya a dirt nap, that's what I said.

So bands like Greenday and everything after them, that gave a renewed interest by the general populous, are not punk by my opinion. Punk had as much to do about the idiology of it as it had to do with the music itself. Commercialism is not punk and that alone negates most of the current bands from the genre.

And metal...how did that even get thrown into the conversation? I don't 'get' metal, so I can't offer an informed opinion on it.

Ok now there is an argument....

Punk is not dead.
First of all, there are still some of the old bands from the original punk days, such as The Exploited, who are still playing shows and still making albums from time to time.

There are new bands out there that are trying to re-create the punk sound from old but of course unless they are pop punk or emo they aren't getting any notice.

Such as this band here, this is a local Minnesotan punk band that are pretty well known nationally called The Quincy Punx. They are definatly punk!

There is another thing I'll never understand: Emo. I still don't get what it is. Just another term for teen angst? Perhaps I'm getting too old and stuck in my ways.

Emo is short for Emotional punk. It's basically punk styled music with whiny depressive lyrics. In my opinion, it really sucks. I mean I can understand a sad song or two on a punk album...but a whole genre dedicated to it? no thanks!
