The first time since May of 2000 Israel has made military strikes on its northern border with Lebanon. The front with Lebanon was reopened after the Gaza hostage situation 100 miles to the South. This happened after Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his generals, Cabinet Ministers went into an emergency session. There is no doubt that Israel now faces a complex crisis for its new Government.

According to the Israeli version, a Hezbollah raiding party had sneaked across the border early in the morning and planted landmines on the road used by Israeli Humvees, killing three of the reconnaissance patrol and capturing two near the border town of Shtula.

“They placed explosive devices on the road, the Humvees drove on to them and then they fired an anti-tank missile,” said an Israel Defence Forces spokeswoman.

Simultaneously, Katyusha rockets were fired at Israeli villages and army posts in the area, injuring five civilians in what appears to have been a diversionary ploy.

It seems to me in the past few weeks things have been really getting bad for Israel. It now seems that Israel is fighting a limited war on two fronts. Both fronts are using gorilla raid tactics to catcher solders and using them to demand prisoners be released. This happened in 2000 and it seems it is happening again. Take the time to read the links, it seems to me the pendulum is swinging pretty far down for Israel at the moment.

And Syria/Iran is coming next after. They'll use this pretext to attack them both, with the US participation. I hope i'm totally wrong.

I wonder if this was the US's plan. They now have a recent story to bring to the G8 meeting about Iran and Syria sponsoring terrorism in Israel and creating instability in the region...

Just to make things more clear. Do you mean that Syria will use this conflict to atack Iran?

I believe he meant they as Israel. He believes Israel will attack Syria and Iran, with the U.S. eager to participate in the possible confrontation.

Ahh ok thanks Delta,
But the problem I see with that is this hit and run gorilla, terror war has been going on for a while. If Isreal is to attack in any sort of convenchel way, for it to be efective, they would half to use the same tactict that was used in Sudan. That would be to kill everybody. I dont really see that hapening, and I dont see a large scale convenchal war being fought in the reagen right now. So that comes back to things just seem bad for Isreal right now.
