If you can choose any I would say the BAR is my favorite. Although when I was in the Marine Corps I rather liked the M 16 A2 for semi automatic fire as well. As far as fully automatic Id say the M60 but a two man team and the SAW for one man Auto fire.

the BAR is a very nice choice.

"The Browning Automatic Rifle was designed and built during World War I in response to a need by U.S. forces for a light "machine rifle" for offensive work. In fact, it was hoped the BAR might help break the stalemate that existed when Pershing's troops arrived in France. The theory was for large numbers of doughboys armed with BARs to employ "walking fire" against the Hnu trenches. This consisted of soldiers advancing toward the enemy, firing with each step of the right foot, producing a torrent of bullets, which would, theoretically, drastically intimidate German return fire."

Got’cha, Loose. Nor would I want to go to the corner CVS for my fix without my trusty M1 Garand with about 100 rounds of .30-06. I think the Ruskies made over 30 million AK47 and AK74 during the Cold War. They are “everywhere” and cheap. I’d prefer an M14 if I lived in the Canadian Northwest and the Canucks did not take illicit firearms so seriously. For homeland defense, or for counter-fire to drive-by shooters, I’d choose the M16. Good Luck to you, Loose! And God Bless.

AR's suck, it's just as simple as that, those that say they have "plenty of knockdown power" have ovbiously never used one on a human. Ohh boy a .22LR on steroids.

AK's are nice, reliable, plenty of power (7.62x39), and a idiot could service them, but past 400 yds meh. Own serveral.

By far, the best semi-auto rifle ever made IMO would be the M-14/M-21. 1000 yard accuracy, plenty of power, reliable. Own several.
