Mythology has, in one form or another impacted almost everyone's life.
To some, the effect has been more profound than others.
But I want to know, who is your favorite mythological character?
Obviously, mine happens to be Sun Wu-K'ung, the monkey king from the Chinese classic "Journey to the West".
He has had a profound effect on me.
He as also influenced the path of my martial style and my outlook on life.

So to all of you, the fine people of ATS (or BTS or whatever...)
Who's your favorite mythological character?

Not exactly major literature but ... TINKERBELL!
Yep. I love Tink. Fairies in general ... but Tink is
the best known I guess. I like her attitude too!

I also have to give regard to Rama (of the Hindu religion).
The Ramayana was a tremendous tale (especially if you read the version by William Buck, that guy had talent...) all except for the ending (which I won't spoil for you if you haven't read it yet...).

Any other takers out there?

Orpheus, the first poet in the Western tradition, towers over other characters in mythology for me. See the text of my favorite poem about Orpheus, posted online:

caliban.lbl.gov...

It's really worth it, though, to find the original printed version of the poem, with the author's original use of spacing on the page to provide dramatic emphasis. The author is Denise Levertov, and the poem was first published in 1966 in her collection titled Relearning the alphabet.

Orpheus...
Isn't he the one who descended into Tartarus in order to rescue his girlfriend?
Not allowed to turn back, but does anyway?
Forever losing his one, true love?
Then later torn apart and his head forced to live on?
Yeah, that's a tremendous story as well.
Good pick!

Anyone else?
